EDMONTON, AB–May 14, 2026—The Saturday afternoon card at Century Mile Racetrack and Casino promises an exciting start as the opening race features a competitive field of seven talented three-year-olds in the $21,400 Horsemen’s Division 1 Derby. The 350-yard feature is scheduled to load into the gate at approximately 3:45 PM and immediately give fans and bettors a thrilling showdown to launch the eight-race program.

Leading the field is the 9-5 morning line favorite, West Southwest, who returns to the races looking to begin her sophomore campaign in winning fashion. The accomplished filly closed out her juvenile season with an impressive victory in the $89,000 Grade 3 Canada Cup Futurity, stamping herself as one of the promising young runners on the Century Mile circuit heading into 2026.

The daughter of Mpshinning has started five times while compiling three victories and earnings of $38,268 for owner Jerry Stojan, who secured the filly for $20,000 at the Los Alamitos Yearling Sale. Her combination of early speed and proven stakes experience makes her one of the major attractions on Saturday’s opening card.

Bred in California by Steve D. Burns, DVM, West Southwest is out of the Hawkinson mare Western Coast. Veteran conditioner Buckey A. Stockwell will saddle the filly from post three with jockey Miguel A. Lopez named to ride.

With a talented lineup of sophomores set to battle in the opening feature, the Horsemen’s Division 1 Derby provides the perfect spark to ignite the Saturday afternoon excitement at Century Mile. Fans can expect a fast and competitive start to the program as these rising stars look to leave their mark early and build momentum for an action-packed day of racing.
