POCATELLO, ID–May 9, 2026—The Mother’s Day afternoon at Pocatello Downs promises excitement, family fun, and rising stars as twenty-two three-year-olds and older maidens prepare to compete throughout three trial heats for the Pocatello Downs Spring Classic Maiden Frolic Trials.

The eight-race card is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM, with races three through five featuring the 300-yard trial heats beginning at approximately 2:00 PM. The twenty-two open-breed maidens will all be chasing one goal, securing one of the ten fastest qualifying times to advance into the Pocatello Downs Spring Classic Maiden Frolic Finals on May 25th.

One of the top contenders on the afternoon card is Rm Cartel Dash, who headlines the opening trial heat in race three as the 3-1 morning line favorite. The four-year-old gelding enters the trials as the highest money earner in the field, having finished on the board in eight of thirteen career starts while earning $12,094 for owner Emiliano Rodriguez.

The consistent gelding is sired by Cartel Hawk out of the Cancino Dash mare Fancy Radiant Dash and was bred in Oregon by Damian Jesus Rodriguez M. Trainer Saul Rodriguez will saddle the gelding from the far outside post eight with jockey Raphael Romero named to ride.

The second trial heat in race four features another strong contender in Paint Big Dreams, installed as the 5-2 morning line favorite. The four-year-old mare has shown consistency throughout her career, finishing on the board seven times while earning $9,556 for owner and trainer Sergio Reyes, who purchased her for $9,500 at the Heritage Place Sale.

Paint Big Dreams is sired by Paintyourownwagon out of the Valiant Hero mare Valiant Dreams V and was bred in Minnesota by Tom Maher. She breaks from post five with jockey Eric Ayala aboard as she looks to stamp herself as one of the leading qualifiers heading into the finals.

Beyond the racing action, fans will also enjoy a festive Mother’s Day celebration at Pocatello Downs, featuring live music from Paige Anne and Judd Erickson to create an entertaining afternoon atmosphere. In celebration of Mother’s Day, all moms will receive free admission for the special afternoon card.

With competitive maiden trials, emerging talent, live entertainment, and a family-friendly atmosphere, Sunday afternoon at Pocatello Downs is shaping up to be one of the most enjoyable racing events of the spring season.
