Championship At Sunland Park Stakes Headlines Saturday’s Stakes-Filled Card

SUNLAND PARK, NM–JANUARY 26, 2026The Saturday program at Sunland Park will feature a competitive nine-race card highlighted by three stakes races: the $60,000 Lonnie and Candy Elam Memorial Stakes, the Grade 1 $350,000 Championship At Sunland Park Stakes, and the Grade 2 $188,490 Shue Fly Finals.

The marquee event of the afternoon is the eighth race, the Grade 1 $350,000 Championship At Sunland Park Stakes, scheduled for approximately 3:32 p.m. The invitational event is open to four-year-olds and older and will be contested at 440 yards.

Headlining the field is the recently crowned 2025 World Champion FDD Dreams, who has been installed as the 4-1 morning-line favorite. Now a four-year-old gelding, FDD Dreams has earned more than $2 million in his career with multiple graded stakes victories, including the Grade 1 $700,000 Champion of Champions and the Grade 1 $1 million All American Derby.

A New Mexico homebred owned by La Feliz Montana Ranch, LLC, FDD Dreams is sired by FDD Dynasty and out of Treasured Dreams by Apollitical Jess. Champion trainer Xavier E. Rodriguez conditions the standout runner, who will break from post one with Champion Jockey Luis Martinez aboard. The accomplished trio looks to launch the 2026 campaign in strong fashion on familiar home ground.

Karmalites enters as the second choice at 9-2 on the morning line. The talented filly closed out her three-year-old season with authority, capturing the $248,000 Texas Classic Oaks and adding a victory in the Grade 1 $703,000 All American Oaks. With eight career wins, she has banked $686,089 for owner Fabian Muniz Porras, who purchased her for $12,000 at the Heritage Place Sale.

Sired by Marfa Lights and out of Cartel Karma by Corona Cartel, Karmalites was bred in Oklahoma by Paris Wixon. Jorge Luis Sanchez, Jr. conditions her and will race from post two under Christian Cardenas, who takes the mount for the first time.

Ten accomplished, multiple graded stakes winners are set to line up for the 440-yard championship, where fans and bettors alike can expect a high-caliber contest and a thrilling blanket finish in the Grade 1 $350,000 Championship At Sunland Park Stakes.
