AJAX, ONT–OCTOBER 21, 2025 –The 25th edition of the prestigious Alex Picov Memorial Futurity for 2-year-olds headlines a huge, 11-race card on October 22, the final racing day of the 2025 Ajax Downs meeting.
Ten juvenile Quarter Horses will race 400 yards for the first time in the $57,060 Futurity, which is race 7 on Wednesday.
The afternoon starts with another edition of the Battle of the Breeds, Thoroughbreds versus Quarter Horses, race 1, and first race post time is 12:55.
The Futurity has been won by many champions, including One Kool Wave, Had to Be Ivory, Streakinlilwagon and Snow Moose. This year's field includes several impressive winners, including Ontario Bred Futurity winner Snow Fun N Fancy and Ontario Sires Futurity winner Especially Tempting.
Snow Fun N Fancy, owned and bred by Milena Kwiecien of Burlington, ON, and trained by Jason Pascoe, had a flawless performance in her stakes win on July 16, her first career race.
Especially Tempting was making her third career start when she won her stakes race on Sept. 10 for owner John Wilson and trainer Scott Reid. Snow Fun n Fancy (post 3) will be ridden in the Picov Futurity by JB Botello and Christian Benitez will ride Especially Tempting from post 9.
Those two stakes-winning fillies have imposing rivals on Wednesday in debut winners Chillin With Peeps and Lights Dynasty. Chantelle Bourgeois' homebred filly Chillin With Peeps (post 2) had a jaw-dropping first career race on Oct. 1, winning by a length under jockey Cassandra Jeschke with a 79 speed index.
Jennifer Zurowski's Lights Dynasty, the lone American bred in the field, won his debut on Aug. 20 despite stumbling after the start. Joe Tavares trains Lights Dynasty and Brian Bell will ride the colt from post 10.
The race for High Point Owner and Jockey is contentious coming into the last day of the Ajax Downs season. Kwiecien and James Bogar each have 148 QROOI points, while Marie Broadstock has 144 points. Bogar has 16 wins in 2025, Kwiecien has 15, and Broadstock has won 10. All three owners are well represented on Wednesday's card.
Ismael Mosqueira leads the jockey colony by QROOI points with 257, just ahead of multiple champion rider Brian Bell, who has 253. Mosqueira, who has 34 wins in 2025, seeks his first Ajax Downs riding title.
