OPELOUSASA, LA–October 7, 2025—Friday evening’s racing action at Evangeline Downs features a short yet competitive field of fillies and mares set to contest the $30,000-guaranteed Amelia Belle Stakes in Race 7, going 350 yards on the main track. Post time for the feature is scheduled for 8:05 PM (CT).
Headlining the lineup is Corona Blue Estrella, installed as the 7-5 morning line favorite. The four-year-old Louisiana-bred daughter of Jess Louisiana Blue, out of Corona de Estrellas by Corona Cartel, has compiled a strong résumé in just 15 career starts. With five wins, five seconds, and one third, she has amassed $131,170 in career earnings — all while competing regularly in stakes company.
Bred by Tom Hill Selman, the bay mare was a $15,000 purchase from the LQHBA Yearling Sale by co-owners Lester Colomb and Raymond Loup. Trained by Kenneth Weeks, Corona Blue Estrella will break from post four under jockey Pedro C. Espinosa as she looks to add another stakes victory to her already impressive record.
Drawing significant attention as the second choice at 2-1 is Patty Wagon Train, the richest entrant in the field with $209,810 in earnings. A durable and seasoned five-year-old mare, she boasts nine career victories, including a win earlier this year in the $25,000 Billy Montgomery Stakes.
By Bp Wagon Train out of Pattymegone (Game Patriot), Patty Wagon Train was bred in Louisiana by Steven P. Miller and races in the colors of John T. Sargent. She will be saddled by trainer Orlando Orozco and partnered with rider Bobby Ransom, breaking from post three.
Though a compact group of five fillies and mares will contest the Amelia Belle, the race is not lacking in class or speed. With multiple stakes winners in the field and seasoned conditioners at the helm, the dash to the wire promises to be fast and fiercely contested.
The Evangeline Downs races can be watched on Q-Racing Video.
