FORT PIERRE, SD–OCTOBER 3, 2025–Quarter Horse racing returns to center stage this Sunday afternoon at Fort Pierre Racetrack with the feature event of the meet: the $10,000-added VBA Open QH Derby (not black type), a fast-and-furious 250-yard dash set for approximately 1:50 PM.

A field of six talented sophomores will line up in the gate, but all eyes will be on Corona N Flash, the 7-2 morning line favorite. This Wyoming-bred gelding recently flashed serious speed, breaking his maiden with a commanding ¾-length victory on September 21. Bred by owner-trainer Donaldo Hermosillo in partnership with B. Guzman, the son of Flash N the Gals and Wendys Corona (by Lordly Way) will look to double up on wins and secure his first stakes title.

Brenda Guzman will saddle Corona N Flash, who breaks from post position three under jockey David Jimenez, aiming to continue the momentum in his budding career.

Looking to play spoiler is the formidable Im Rip, installed as the second choice at 4-1. The gelding boasts a strong resume with five wins in ten career starts, including impressive scores in both the $27,000 NDQHRA Futurity and the Rusty Wilson Memorial Futurity earlier this year.

Sired by Rip Tide out of Cowboywannab (by Cowboys Carte), Im Rip was bred in North Dakota by Tyrell R. Moody. He’s trained by Skip Moody and will be partnered for the first time with jockey Zack Ziegler, adding an intriguing new dynamic to an already proven competitor.

With a compact yet competitive field, the VBA Open QH Derby promises to deliver a burst of Quarter Horse speed and excitement that fans won't want to miss. Whether you're rooting for the rising star Corona N Flash or the seasoned stakes winner Im Rip, Sunday’s feature at Fort Pierre offers a thrilling showcase of regional racing talent.
