ALBUQUERQUE, NM–AUGUST 28, 2025—The 2025 All American Quarter Horse Futurity (G1), boasting a $3,000,000 purse, is set for Saturday, August 16, at The Downs at Albuquerque.
The 440-yard championship for two-year-olds has attracted a field of ten qualifiers, led by Political Twist, King Of The Tide, and The Diesel Train — three standouts who headline a competitive renewal of Quarter Horse racing’s richest event.
First post time on the stakes-filled card is 12:30 p.m. (MDT).
Breaking from post nine as the 5-2 morning-line favorite, Political Twist, a sorrel gelding by leading sire Apollitical Jess out of C Twister Seis by Tres Seis, comes into the Futurity unbeaten in five career starts.
Owned by La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC and Ray Willis and trained by Xavier E. Rodriguez, the $150,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale purchase has earned $609,017.
Political Twist was dominant in his trial on August 4 at Ruidoso, drawing off to win by three-quarters in 21.055 while posting a 101 speed index, the first day's second-fastest heat.
Earlier this summer, he stamped himself the one to beat with a runaway victory in the $1,000,000 Ruidoso Futurity (G1), finishing in 17.301 for 350 yards and earning a 99 speed index. He also won the $365,000 West Texas Futurity(G2) in April. Regular rider Luis Martinez will again be aboard.
Another major contender is King Of The Tide (7-2), a sorrel gelding by Eye Am King out of Ms Riptide by Ocean Runaway, bred in New Mexico by MJ Farms.
Owned by E. Gene Bradley, Tod Bradley, and Ware Brown, the $130,000 Ruidoso New Mexico-Bred Yearling Sale graduate has won two of four starts, including a commanding trial victory in 21.001 on August 4, earning a sharp 102 speed index, the day 1 fastest.
Trained by Trey Wood and piloted by champion jockey Ricky Ramirez, King Of The Tide also finished a close runner-up in the $346,000 Mountain Top Futurity (RG2) earlier this season. He has earned $89,287.
Rounding out the top three is The Diesel Train (4-1), a bay colt by world champion sire Freighttrain B out of Apollotah by Apollitical Jess, bred in Louisiana by Steve A. Holt.
Owned and trained by Luis Daniel Iturralde, The Diesel Train surged late in his trial on August 5, getting up by a head in 21.060 for a 101 speed index. A $100,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale purchase, he has two wins from six starts and nearly $22,000 in earnings. After their determined trial effort, Jockey Omar Iturralde, Luis Daniel's brother, retains the mount.
With a $3 million purse on the line, Saturday’s All American Futurity promises high drama, blistering speed, and one of the most lucrative prizes in Quarter Horse racing.
