LOS ALAMITOS, CA–AUGUST 21, 2025–Caliche Walls Venture LLC, Alan Isbell, Lance Bland and Jimmy Barton’s Lethal Cowboy 123, the winner of the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity and Grade 1 Golden State Million Futurity, will make his first local start of the year when he heads the running of the $30,000 Sgt Pepper Feature Handicap for 3-year-olds on Saturday night at Los Alamitos.
Lethal Cowboy 123 was named the 2024 Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Racing Association Horse of the Year and champion 2-year-old gelding after going undefeated in his four starts at Los Alamitos last year.
His perfect record during his juvenile campaign included those two Grade 1 futurity victories. He was also named the AQHA champion 2-year-old and champion 2-year-old gelding thanks to his great season.
The son of Flying Cowboy 123 has made three starts in New Mexico this year, racing in the trials to the Ruidoso Derby, Rainbow Derby, and All American Derby. He qualified to the Grade 1 Rainbow Derby, but the final was not held after the Ruidoso racing season was canceled in July due to severe flooding around mountain resort area.
Trained by AQHA champion trainer Marc Jungers, Lethal Cowboy 123 had a tough start and finished sixth in his trial to the All American which were held at The Downs at Albuquerque.
He returned to California following that forgettable outing with the ultimate goal of qualifying to the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Super Derby. Christian Ramon, the AQHA champion jockey, will ride Lethal Cowboy 123 from the outside post seven.
The rest of the field from the rail out is as follows: Holmybeeranwatchthis, winner of the James Smith Memorial Handicap, start from post one, Cowboy Bolt will go from post two, the stakes placed Paint Horse star Kid Cocinero will go from post three, Mitchum will go from post four, Vandy’s Flash Handicap runner-up Steel Blue Cartel will go from post five, and Clareets Boy will start from post six with Lethal Cowboy 123 racing from the outside post seven.
