ATLOONA, IA–August 15, 2025–The action-packed weekend at Prairie Meadows rolls into Sunday, August 17, with three stakes events anchoring the program. First post for the day’s races is set for approximately 4:00 p.m., beginning with the $57,575 Iowa Stallion Derby, followed by the $48,807 Adequan Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge in race two, and culminating with the (G2) $54,510 AQHA Racing Prairie Meadows Championship Challenge in race four (see related story).

Iowa Stallion Derby Draws Seven-Runner Field

The $57,575 Iowa Stallion Derby's opening stakes will see seven entrants sprint 400 yards for both the purse and prestige.

Installed as the 2-1 morning line favorite, Imma Southern Bell will break from post four under Angel O. Ramirez for trainer Tony Dean Jones, who also co-owns and bred the filly in partnership with Rick Neff. Sired by Go to the Gravel out of Southernrunaway by Southern Cartel, the filly has three wins from six starts and $58,409 in career earnings, making her the richest runner in the field.

The second choice at 5-2 is Trs Snot Nose Kid, a homebred gelding for Vernon Hammes, sired by Just Amazing Jess out of Determinedly by First Wrangler. Trained by Nelson Figueroa, he has earned $31,821 from ten starts and will be guided from post five by jockey Jorge Torres.

With a balanced mix of proven winners and up-and-coming contenders, the Iowa Stallion Derby promises to set a high bar for the day’s stakes action.

The afternoon continues with the $48,807 Adequan Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge in race two and the (G2) $54,510 AQHA Racing Prairie Meadows Championship Challenge Stakes in race four (see related story).
