ATLOONA, IA–AUGUST 14, 2025–On Saturday evening, August 16th, Prairie Meadows will host a stellar night of Quarter Horse racing, with three stakes events highlighting the program. The first post for the stakes portion of the card is scheduled for approximately 6:00 p.m., kicking off an evening of speed, talent, and championship implications.
The action begins with the Grade 3 $38,148 Cox Ranch Prairie Meadows Distaff Challenge Finals (see related story), featuring eight fillies and mares going 400 yards. The winner will earn their share of the purse and a berth in the Cox Ranch Distaff Challenge Championship at Albuquerque Downs on October 18, 2025.
Next is the $70,125 John Deere Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge Finals, where ten talented two-year-olds will sprint 350 yards for a spot in the John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship, also set for October at Albuquerque Downs.
The stakes tripleheader concludes with the $72,800 Iowa Stallion QH Futurity, a 300-yard dash for Iowa-registered and foaled two-year-olds from the 2022 breeding season.
Morning line favorite Rebas First Kiss (3-1) enters off a sharp maiden-breaking victory by 2¼ lengths at Prairie Meadows in July, following her qualification for the $95,000 Hawkeye Futurity earlier this summer. The Kiss Me Anywhere filly, out of Tellher to Fly by Teller Cartel, has earned $17,673 from three starts for breeders/owners Robert S. and Sandra L. Brown. Trained by Tony Dean Jones, she will start from the outside post ten with Armando Alvidrez retaining the mount.
Close in the wagering at 7-2 is Kiss Me To The Moon, a gelding by Kiss Me Anywhere out of Flash First Moon by First Moonflash. Owned by Stephen Moyle and bred by Kay J. Sage, he has two starts—finishing second and third—earning $6,146. Trainer Alex Wessels sends him from post eight with Miguel J. Ramirez aboard.
The influence of Kiss Me Anywhere runs deep in this year’s Futurity, as the stallion sires four of the ten entrants. His other representatives include Kwik Fast Prize (post two, Cristian R. Esqueda, trainer Alex Wessels) and Miss Kissem (post seven, Alfredo Triana Jr., trainer John A. Stinebaugh).
With evenly matched contenders and proven stakes connections, the $72,800 Iowa Stallion QH Futurity promises to deliver a thrilling finish to Prairie Meadows’ stakes showcase.
The Canterbury Park Races can be watched on Q-Racing Video.
