Pacific Surfliner Leads Field In 25th Running Of Jodys Glory Trials On Sunday

MEXICO CITY, MEX–JULY 17, 2025—On July 20, 2025, sixteen promising juveniles will line up in two trial heats at Hipódromo de las Américas, each aiming for a coveted spot in the 25th Running of the Jodys Glory Finals. The top ten qualifiers from the 350-yard trials will return on August 10 to compete for an estimated $41,315 purse, making this one of the marquee events of the summer racing calendar in Mexico City.

Topping the morning line at 1-1, Pacific Surfliner enters the trials with momentum and strong credentials. The daughter of Freighttrain B, recently captured the John Deere Juvenile Challenge, boosting her earnings to $25,447 for owner Cuadra JJ.

Trained by Julian Gutierrez, the Oklahoma-bred filly was $9,500 purchase at the 2024 Heritage Place Yearling Sale. Bred by Kelly Yother Equine LLC, she is out of Ring A Ring Of Roses by Jess Lips.

Breaking from the inside in the first trial heat, she will be ridden by Huberclein Gomez, looking to continue her winning form and secure a fast qualifying time. With her blend of speed, experience, and proven stakes success, Pacific Surfliner is widely regarded as the horse to beat.

The second heat features Dark Water Bay, a colt still seeking his maiden victory but carrying high expectations. Listed at 2-1 on the morning line, the son of Mr Jess Perry has impressed with runner-up finishes in both the John Deere Juvenile Challenge and The Prize Classic.

Conditioned by Antonio Garcia for Cuadra Alpuyeca, Dark Water Bay is a $77,000 graduate of the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale. He was bred in Oklahoma by Mike Vaughan, out of Aqua Girl by Corona Cartel. With Heriberto Camacho in the irons, the colt looks ready to break through with a winning performance and claim his place in the finals.

The Jodys Glory Classic, a tribute to one of Quarter Horse racing’s greats, continues to attract top-tier prospects in its 25th renewal.
