FARGO, ND–JULY 17, 2025—Ten of North Dakota’s most promising juvenile Quarter Horses will line up for a shot at glory in the NDQHRA Futurity Trials on Friday, July 18, with the top eight qualifiers advancing to the $17,000-added final on August 3, 2025. The trials, exclusively featuring Certified North Dakota-Breds, will be run over 350 yards in two heats of five horses each.
The first trial heat is carded as Race 2 with an approximate post time of 5:30 p.m. on an exciting evening of Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred action beginning at 5:00 p.m.
R Thirtyeightspecial, the trials' top earner, headlines the first heat and enters as the 1-1 morning line favorite. Owned and trained by Chris Longie, the gelded son of Roens Ramblin Fever out of Two Thirty Eight (by Lead the Field) has won two of four starts, banking $6,100 to date. Bred by Gary and Stefanie Roen, R Thirtyeightspecial will break from the rail in post position one under jockey Ricardo Martinez. A sharp performance here would solidify his spot in the August final.
Race 3 will see the second trial heat, where Chippewa Downs Final winner Korona On the Side looks to punch his ticket to the finals. The gelding, by Koronaville out of Tricks On the Side, is trained and owned in partnership by Mark Allery and John Bercier. He narrowly captured the Chippewa Downs title and brings earnings of $5,867 into the trials. With returning jockey Larren Delorme aboard, he’ll break from post four in the yellow silks.
Path to the $17,000-Added Final. With only the top eight fastest times advancing, the pressure will be on from the moment the gates open. These trials serve not only as a qualifier but as a stage for the region's rising stars to showcase their early speed and potential. The final, scheduled for August 3, promises to be a showcase of North Dakota’s finest juvenile runners.
Fans can look forward to a competitive evening of racing as these young hopefuls battle for a place in one of the premier Quarter Horse events of the local racing season.
