OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–MAY 30, 2025–Remington Park will bring the curtain down on its 2025 American Quarter Horse season this Saturday, May 31, with a blockbuster card featuring 12 stakes races. The evening is anchored by four Grade 1 contests, including the prestigious $250,000 Debbie Schauf Remington Park Invitational Championship [G1].
Slated as Race 11 on the program, the 440-yard stakes race leads into the night’s grand finale—the $1,161,010 Heritage Place Futurity [G1], Remington’s richest race of the season.
Leading the field for the Debbie Schauf Invitational is the powerhouse Mr Michel, installed as the 8-5 morning-line favorite. The six-year-old gelding has captured three consecutive stakes wins: the Leo Stakes [G1] in May, the SLM Big Daddy Stakes [G2] in March, and the Indiana Championship Stakes to close out his 2024 campaign.
By Kiss My Hocks and out of Lovemelikethat by Likenothinoueversaw, Mr Michel was bred in Indiana by Mark Michel and sold for $17,500 through the QHRAI Stallion Service Auction. He’s compiled a record of 15 wins from 27 starts, hitting the board 21 times and banking $618,300 for owner Alberto Valadez.
This year marks his first Remington Park campaign after racing exclusively at Horseshoe Indianapolis for his entire career. Under the care of trainer Cristian Alcala, he remains undefeated this season at Remington. Juan Pulido will pilot Mr Michel from post position three.
Second choice on the morning line at 4-1 is Shakers No Secret, drawn to the outside post. The Five Bar Cartel gelding finished a game second to Mr Michel in the Leo Stakes [G1] and will reunite with jockey Christian Ramos for the rematch.
Trained by Mark Jungers for owners Abel Lopez, Ethan Lopez, and Manny Dutchover, the five-year-old has compiled a 10-7-4 record from 30 starts, earning $691,164. He was bred in Texas by Garlyn O. Shelton out of Shaker Secret by No Secrets Here, and was purchased for $14,000 at the Heritage Place Yearling Sale. The veteran campaigner is a three-time stakes winner with a strong closing kick.
