LOS ALAMITOS, CA–MAY 8, 2025–Train B Taka, who has been the most consistent sophomore male at Los Alamitos this season, will look to secure his second stakes victory of the meet when he takes on a full field of quality sprinters in the $30,000 Dillingham Stakes on Saturday night.
Owned by Cheryl Stokes, Armando Arreola, and Tungsten Racing Partnership, Train B Taka began the meet with a victory in the Holiday Handicap on December 28, his final start as a 2-year-old. That was his second win in as many starts at Los Alamitos, setting him up perfectly for a strong 3-year-old campaign.
Train B Taka’s first start of the year saw him score a thrilling victory in his trial to the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Winter Derby.
The gelding by Freighttrain B came back with a second-place finish in the Winter Derby final before returning to the winner’s circle with a victory in his trial to the Grade 2 El Primero Del Año Derby. The El Primero featured an upset victory by Show N Tell Cartel, but Train B Taka still posted a solid third.
So far, he’s returned to win after a loss at Los Alamitos and figures to be the big favorite in the Dillingham at 400 yards. Edwin Escobedo will ride the Rancho El Cabresto-bred runner for trainer Marc Jungers.
The Dillingham will include two El Primero finalists in Clanfield Act Stables’ Favorite Semental and Keith Nellesen’s Jess Send Kevin. Both runners are strong stakes performers, but they’re still looking for their first-ever stakes win.
Kolleen Ledgerwood’s Misdeal could be the x-factor in this race after posting two impressive wins, while Listen Now and Jess Flaming will enter after running in the James Smith Memorial Handicap. Bottle It Up, Party Time Tom, Gimy A Reason, and the talented Paint Horse Kid Cocinero will complete the field.
