RED DEER, ALB–SEPTEMBER 25, 2023–The 28th Annual Canada Quarter Horse Cup Sale enjoyed across the board increases in gross, average and median. The annual event was held Friday, September 28 at the Westerner Park in Reed Deer, Alberta.

During Friday's sale AQHRA sold a total of 14 of the 26 yearlings through the ring for gross receipts of $192,300, a 107% increase over 13 head selling for $92,900 in 2022. The average price of $13,736 is a 92% increase over last year's $7,146. The median price was up 27% to $9,500 compared to $7,500 last year.

An RNA rate of 13.8% represents the 11 yearlings who failed to reach their reserve.

Laci Brunelle acquired the sale-toper, Hip 26 - Ima Hott Version, for $42,000.  Ralph Danard consigned the filly by Winners Version from the multiple stakes winning and track record setting Tres Seis mare Im Hott Ur Nott. This is the family of Ruidoso QH Futurity(G1) winner Red Clay Of Texas.

Glenn Wills sold the second high-seller, Hip 6 - RJS Boss, for $30,000 to Colton Wills. The colt by leading second-crop sire Jd Wagon Boss, from the El Mistral mare RJ Bitterroot Babe, is a half-brother to five black type included multiple stakes winner Northforkzoom.

Jeff Rath paid $22,500 for the third high-seller, Hip 24 - O Winsmore, a daughter of leading Canadian Sire First Timber. Wesley Oulton consigned the full sister to Alberta Stallion Derby winner Timbergold and Alberta Stallion Stakes Derby winner Jagnestimber. O Winsmore is out of Gilded Gold by First Down Dash.

Laci Brunelle was the sale's leading buyer with the one purchase for $42,000. Jeff Rath had two purchases for $32,500 and Colton Wills had the one for $30,000.

Ralph Denard was the leading consignor and/or agent with two head for gross receipts of $49,400. Glenn Wills had two head total $41,500 and Wesley Oulton sold two yearlings for $32,500.

JD Wagon Boss was the leading sire (by average, two or more sold) with four yearlings averaging $16,500. First Timber sold two for a $16,250 average and Cerveza Corona had two head average $5,100.
