SHELBYVILLE, IN–SEPTEMBER 19, 2023–The median price for horses rose 32% despite the average being down at the just concluded QHRA Speed Sale held Saturday, September 16 at the Horseshoe Indianapolis in Shelbyville.

Almost half as many horses were offered this year with the QHRAI reporting gross receipts of $174,300 on the 20 horses sold.  The sale's average was $8,715 and median of $6,750, a 32% incrase over the $5,100 median one year ago.

“The initial goal behind the speed sale is offering a sale that our breeders can take their yearlings to showcase and hopefully sell,” QHRAI Secretary Teresa Myers said. 

Roberto Chavez paid $22,000 for the sale-topper, Hip 42 Itsa Big Secret. Amy Youngblood Peoples, DVM consigned the Hez Our Secret colt from the stakes winning Mr Jess Perry mare Jess Cranky. Its A Big Secret is a brother to multiple stakes-placed Jessalilsecret.

Steve and Ashley Mullins consigned the second high-seller, Hip 10 Lily Red Wagon, a daughter of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon from the First Down Dash mare Red Envelope. Jason Chinn paid $20,000 for the black filly from the family of Mile High Derby(G2) winner Corona Music.

Saturday’s third high-seller Hip 45 Quick Gamee was purchased for $17,000 by Normando Jimenez. Cesar Cano consigned the Royal Quick Dash filly from the family of champion A Revenant. Juanitas Last Game by Game Patriot is the dam.

Roberto Chavez was the sale’s leading buyer with four yearlings grossing $47,500. Normando Jimenez had two for $21,000 and Jason Chinn had the one purchse for $20,000.

Cesar Cano was the leading consignor and/or agent with two head grossing $33,000. Amy Youngblood Peoples, DVM had the one yearling for $22,000 and Steve and Ashley Mullins sold the one for $20,000.

Freighttrain B was the sale’s leading sire (by average, two or more sold) with two head averaging $16,000. Hez Our Secret had two for $15,750 average and Jess Zoomin has six yearlings average $5,067.
