$260,000 NM Bred Helps Push Gross, Average Up In 2023 Ruidoso New Mexico Bred QH Yearling Sale

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM–AUGUST 12, 2023–Eight six-figure yearlings led the charge in the closing session of the 2023 Ruidoso New Mexico Bred QH Yearling Sale helping to push the sale's gross and average past last year's record breaking numbers.

This year the sale recorded 148 yearlings traded of the 158 on offer for gross receipts of $4,238,600, up 20% over 2022. A record average of $28,639 was an 11% increase over last year's $25,818. The median dipped slightly to $15,500 compared to $16,000 last year.  There were only 10 horses who failed to meet their reserve, representing a 7% RNA rate.

MJ Farms again consigned the top five second session high-sellers beginning with Hip 158 Ocean Bridge, a full-brother to Zia Futurity(RG1) winner and All American Futurity(G1) runner-up Mister Riptide, selling for $260,000. Paragon Farms, LLC signed the ticket for the Woodbridge gelding out of Ms Riptide by Ocean Runaway.

Tungsten Racing Partnership paid $185,000 for Hip 228 King Seis, a colt by leading second-crop sire Eye Am King from the stakes winner and G1-finalist C Twister Seis, by Tres Seis. This is the family of multiple stakes winner D E Wagons Strawfly.

MJ Farms' Hip 209, Alamos, tied for the second-high seller in session two, bringing a final bid of $185,000 from Triple R Racing LLC . The Eye Am King gelding is out of Anakena, a full sister to multiple graded stakes winner Woodys Allstar by Woodbridge.  

Paragon Farms LLC led all buyers with the one purchase for $260,000. Equifine paid $227,000 for five yearlings and Tungsten Racing Partnership signed two tickets totaling $215,000.

MJ Farms was by far the sale's leading consignor and/or agent with 33 head for gross receipts of $2,094,000.  Double LL Farms, Agent sold 25 head for $586,500 and Mike Logan, Agent had 26 yearlings gross $586,500.

Woodbridge was the leading sale sire (by average with two or more sold) with 10 head averaging $58,500. Eye Am King had 32 yearlings average $42,850 and Big Daddy Cartel sold 22 head that averaged $37,636.
