The Grand Legend, a 7-year-old son of FDD Going Grand racing for James C. Whitener LLC from the barn of trainer Adan Guzman, is the early favorite off of his second-place finish, one length behind winner Eye Will Decide, in the September 2, 870-yard San Marcos Stakes at Retama Park.

The Grand Legend has won four of his seven starts at the 870-yard distance. The gelding drew post 2 and will be ridden by Noe Villatoro.

Friday's 400-yard, $38,055 Q-Racing Video Distaff Challenge Stakes has drawn seven fillies and mares, led by early favorite Fabulous Rachel. Other contenders include Jerry Lee Davis' Lipstick Promise. A homebred sophomore daughter of champion A Revenant trained by Kie Mushinski, the filly will be stretching out in distance off of his 1 1/4-length win in the September 1, 330-yard La Villita Stakes (R) for Texas-bred 3-year-old fillies at Retama Park.
