Apolinaria Prize, under jockey Cordarelton Benn, easily winning the $57,031 Bank of America Emerald Downs Championship Challenge on Sunday.

AUBURN, WA–AUGUST 20, 2023–Apolinaria Prize, the 2021 John Deere Emerald Downs Juvenile Challenge winner, returned on Sunday to win the $57,031 Bank of America Emerald Downs Championship Challenge.

Apolinaria Prize ($4.20) kicked clear to win by a length over Fast Movin Freight. The final time of :22.270 for the 440-year stake earned the winner a 95 speed index.

Cordarelton Benn was aboard the post-time favorite, who was the fastest qualifier from two trials on July 30. Lorenzo Marquez-Campo trains for owner Juan Manuel Marquez.

After winning the regional qualifier in 2021, Apolinaria Prize won the John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2) in Albuquerque that fall. She is also multiple stakes placed throughout the Pacific Northwest and competed in the Southwest Juvenile Invitational Championship Stakes (G2) at Zia.

The 4-year-old filly added $26,806 to her career winnings of $138,526 from 17 starts with seven wins.

Apolinaria Prize is a daughter of Fast Prize Cartel and was bred in California by EG High Desert Farm LLC. Her dam, SS Calendar Girl, by Finding Nemo, competed in multiple graded stakes at Los Alamitos and won the Speedhorse Derby (G3) at Fair Meadows in 2013.

The winn also secured Apolinaria Prize a starting spot int he 2023 $250,000-est. Bank of America Challenge Championship (G1) at Lone Star Park October 27.

The fifth fastest qualifier, Fast Movin Freight, finished in second place at 22-1, a neck in front of third place finisher The Rev Rocker.

Alex Anaya was in the irons for trainer Freddy Ibarra and owner Fernando Fernandez. Matt Huse bred the 6-year-old Freighttrain B gelding in Oregon, out of Real Queen Like It, by Real Visions.

Fast Movin Freight is four for 20 lifetime with $37,085. He raced in the 2022 Bank of America Emerald Downs Championship Challenge and the Jack Rhoden Memorial Crooked River Bonus Challenge Stakes.

The Rev Rocker, the second fastest qualifier, was third under jockey Guillermo Suarez. Jose Rosales Gomez trains for owner LG Racing LLC.

The Rev Rocker is a 3-year-old New Mexico-bred son of A Revenant. Debra Laney bred the gelding out of her graded stakes winning mare, Mitey Moon, by First Moonflash.

His four wins and $63,500 from 15 starts include a victory in last year’s John Deere Pocatello Downs Juvenile Challenge. He has appeared in the John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2) at Horseshoe Indianapolis, finished second in the AQRA Turf Paradise Open Quarter Horse Futurity, and was third in the Adequan Grants Pass Derby Challenge last month.

Completing the field were Alabama Hills, No Juans Fool, Dr Tool, L Bar D Mistr Cartel, Newport Guy and Cm Boom Shakalaka. Gc Harrys Game was scratched.
