ALTOONA, IA—AUGUSUT 18, 2023—Keeping his2023 Prairie Meadows season a perfect 3-for-3 fastest qualifier A Legacy Of Tales raced to a three-quarter length win as the post time favorite for the $44,225 Adequan Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge at Prairie Meadows racetrack Friday evening.
A Legacy Of Tales finished willing under jockey Cristian Esqueda while cocking :19943 seconds, a 93 speed index with a 5 mph headwind.
Trainer Stacy Charette-Hill conditions the Oklahoma-bred son of multiple stakes sire Wagon Tales for owner-breeder Donald J. Friesen. It was a the seventh career win for the bay gelding who used the $20,342 Derby Challenge winner's purse to bring his bankroll to over $191,000.
Bred from the Streakin La Jolla mare Legacys A Streakin, A Legacy Of Tales won the Valley Junction Futurity(G3) at Prairie Meadows last year.
Mrs Kvn, winner of the Heritage Place Oaks two races back put in a solid finish under jockey Daniel Torres to earn $8,845 for second. Shawna Manriquez trains the daughter of Kvn Corona for owner Thomas Scheckel.
Bred in Utah by McColee Land & Livestock LLC, from the First Down Dash mare Little Surfer, Mrs Kvn has won three of 13 starts and earned $158,981.
Also owned by Scheckel and trained by Manuel Campos, Five Bar Signs finished a half-a-length back to earn $4,422 for third. The Mixer Ranch bred the Five Bar Cartel filly in Oklahoma from the Tres Seis mare A Tres Of Paint. The stakes-placed mare has earned $43,726.
Curls Patti Wagon, Water Or Corona, Reloaded With Corona, Always Interesting, One Sweet Fdd and Where Theres Sumoke completed the field.
