LETHBRIDGE, ALB—MAY 28, 2017—Tac It Perry dueled Reds On Fire to the wire, getting a neck win in the $15,810 AQHA Rocky Mountain Turf Club Maiden Challenge Sunday afternoon at Lethbridge. Streakinbabe was a nose back in the blanket finish for third.
Ridden by jockey Alejandro Almanzan, Tac It Perry cruised over the 350 yards in :17.949 seconds, a 94-speed index with a 7 mph tailwind.
Janice Sather saddled the winner for herself and Barry Sather. Bred in Texas by Pete Scarmardo the 3-year-old Tac It Like a Man gelding picked up $7,589 to nearly double his lifetime mark to $13,416. It was the first career win in nine starts for the gelding out of Quickid Perry by Mr Jess Perry.
Reds On Fire, a stakes-placed son of Sizzlin Red Corona, earned $3,241 for second. William Leech trains the gelding for owner Alison Christie. Scott Sterr rode the Alberta-bred out of Queens Strawfly by Strawfly Special. Ed Vanee, R. Sakamoto and D. Edwards are the breeder.
Leech also saddled third-place finisher Streakinbabe for owner Blair Huston. The Streakinisanattitude filly out of Rj Bitterroot Babe, by El Mistral, earned $1,581 for the effort. Freed Fuentes was aboard the T. Copithorne and G. Willis Alberta-bred 3-year-old.
Cr Crusin For Chris, Zerelda James, Dashin By All and O First Flash completed the field. Anitalamasbonita was scratched.
