Girlrilla Wins The Merial Distaff Challenge, Frankie B Takes Red Cell Distance Challenge Trophy

Girlrilla Wins The Merial Distaff Challenge, Frankie B Takes Red Cell Distance Challenge Trophy

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—SEPTEMBER 28, 2013—Crowson Racing’s Girlrilla, guided by jockey Raul Herrera claimed the win in the final stakes race of the night at Lone Star Park on Saturday, the Merial Lone Star Distaff Challenge for fillies and mares.

Clocking the 400 yards in 19.661 was worth a speed index of 93 for the four-year-old mare by First Down Dash. Girlrilla increased her career earnings to $25,729 from the $17,766 winner’s share earned for her effort. She now has three wins from eight lifetime starts.

Anna Crowson saddled the Lucas Racing, Inc. Maryland bred filly from the In Excess (TB) mare Girl In The Curl. She has won three of eight career starts and earned a starting spot in the $100,000 Guaranteed Merial Distaff Challenge Championship(G1) November 9 at Los Alamitos Race Course.

Those with a win, place and show ticket on Girlrilla were rewarded with a payout of $8.00, $5.20 and $3.60.

Second place went to Solid Anita Jo who returned $8.20 and $3.40. The Jack Manning and Tammy Johnson homebred by second crop sire Rock Solid Jess picked up $7,560 for second. Jacquelyn Bobroff rode the sorrel miss out of the Separatist mare Ariba Reba. Tammy Johnson was also the trainer.

Entrap, a Stel Corona filly out of Separate Tac, by Separatist, was third and paid $3.40. Trey Woods conditions the 3-year-old filly for Johnny Trotter and Burnett Ranches, Ltd. Steve Burns, DVM is the breeder.

Lets Get Silk, Big Visions, Shelle Belle Blue, Rightamountofwrong, Prime Moon and Jodie Perry completed the order of finish.

Frankie B Takes Earns Red Cell Distance Challenge Berth

The $31,680 Red Cell Lone Star Distance Challenge Stakes went to Frankie B beating out favorite Wahoo by a length Saturday night . Co-owned and trained by John Stinebaugh, Frankie B ran the 870 yards over a muddy track in 45.477 seconds, earning a speed index of 98. The win garner's him a startng spot in the $100,000 Guaranteed Red Cell Distance Challenge Championship(G1) November 9 at Los Alamitos Race Course.

Ridden by G. R. Carter, Jr., the four-year-old gelding by Tres Seis pressed the pace on the inside rail, took the lead mid-stretch and held the lead to the wire. Monica Williams and Jerry Hill are the other co-owners. Bielau Oaks bred the winner in Texas from the Feature Mr Jess mare My Fortune Feature. The winner’s share of $16,474 increased Frankie B’s earnings to $62,042. His career record now reads 11-3-2-2.

Post-time favorite Wahoo finished second for owner/breeder Bobby D. Cox and trainer John Buchanan. The Texas-bred Feature Mr Jess gelding is out of First To Celebrate, by First Down Dash. Gaspar Garcia had the riding assignment.

Eye Shine At The Bar, a gelded son of multiple graded stakes winning Thoroughbred Preachinatthebar, earned $3,643 for third. Toby Keeton trains the 3-year-old for James Ray Hrabovsky and Joyce Leann Nalls. Also bred by Nalls, the gelding is out of the First To Shine mare Eye Shine Special.

Frankie B paid $9.00, $3.20 and $2.20. Favorite, Wahoo paid $2.40 and $2.10 with Eye Shine At the Bar returning $2.20 in third. Ka Chingaching and My classic Zoomer completed the order of finish.
