NACOGDOCHES, TX—NOVEMBER 5, 2013—Champion and champion producer Dashing Phoebe was laid to rest September 30 by her owner Kirk Goodfellow. The 1983 daughter of world champion and former leading sire Dash For Cash was euthanized due to complications from old age and buried under a "big oak tree on banks of a lake" on Goodfellow's Dreams Come True Ranch, near Nacogdoches, Texas.
Bred in Texas by San Jose Cattle Co. and trained by Don Farris, the two-time AQHA Racing Champion filly won or placed 15 of 20 career starts while earning $609,553. A winner of four grade 1 races her stakes wins include the Kansas Futurity(G1), Kansas Derby(G1), Sun Country Futurity(G1), Rainbow Silver Cup(G1) and Go Together Handicap. She was third in the Oceanside Handicap and a finalist in the All American Futurity(G1) and Rainbow Derby(G1).
Equally as impressive in the broodmare band, Dashing Phoebe earned AQHA's "Dams of Distinction" Award in 2008. She produced 22 foals, 16 ROM, 15 winners, 5 stakes winners and earners of nearly $2.4 million. According to Goodfellow only 70 Quarter Horse mares have produced five or more stakes winners.
Ranked #8 on the all-time producer's list, Dashing Phoebe's foals include four-time champion filly Heartswideopen SI 104 ($1,885,283), champion Special Phoebe SI 104 ($139,963), Grade 3 winner and Grade 1 sire Furyofthewind SI 96 ($70,554), RG3 winner Dashingfordestiny SI 97 ($56,961), RG3 winner Solid Demand SI 102 ($35,285) and RG3 placed Especially Phoebe SI 92 ($24,000).
Dashing Phoebe's daughters and granddaughters are carrying on the tradition and have produced nearly 20 stakes horses,a champion and a world record holder. Six of her daughters have produced runner of more than $100,000.
They are the dams of such runners as champion American Runaway SI 105 ($686,355), Grade 1 placed and 2013 All American Futurity finalist Hes Relentless SI 101 ($271,280 at 2 2013), RG2 winner Dueling Juan SI 121 ($475,001), world record holder Corona Ease SI 129 ($209,820), RG1 winner Famous Phoebe SI 102 ($189,272), G3 winner A Special Snow Flo SI 96 ($117,171), etc.
Her son Furyofthewind sired Turbulent Times SI 94 ($503,859 at 2), winner of the Golden State Million Futurity(G1) at Los Alamitos Race Course on Sunday. From four crops to race he has sired 17 stakes horses, $3.3 million in earners that also include 2013 Heritage Place Derby(G2) winner Brace For Bernal SI 105 ($322,326), New Mexico Classic Derby(RG2) winner Quatro Menudos SI 104 ($300,386), etc.
