San Lorenzo Princess Prevails in $33,000 French Quarters Stakes at Delta Downs

VINTON, LA—AUGUST 6, 2026—San Lorenzo Princess rallied into contention and prevailed by a head over Valiant Spit Curl in a tight finish Thursday evening to win the $33,000 French Quarters Stakes at Delta Downs.

The 330-yard stakes for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward was contested over a fast track. San Lorenzo Princess completed the distance in 16.711, earning a 96 speed index.

Sent off as the even-money favorite under jockey Leonardo Rodriguez, San Lorenzo Princess broke fourth before advancing into contention. The 4-year-old filly got the better of Valiant Spit Curl late, winning by a head and collecting the $21,000 winner's share of the purse.

Trainer Juan C. Garcia conditions San Lorenzo Princess for owner Rogelio Marquez, Jr. Bred in Louisiana by Darrell Williams, the sorrel daughter of champion sire Apollitical Blood is out of Princess of Torts, by Corona Cartel.

San Lorenzo Princess was offered at the 2026 Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale, where she was an $85,000 RNA. Thursday's victory improved her career record to 14 starts, six wins, four seconds, and one third, with earnings of $180,972.

Valiant Spit Curl produced a strong late rush under jockey Jorge Javier Garcia but came up a head short while earning $5,000 for runner-up honors. The 4-year-old double-registered filly finished three-quarters of a length in front of third-place finisher Jrs Jeeses Cartel.

Oswaldo Hernandez is the owner-breeder of Valiant Spit Curl. The 4-year-old daughter of Mighty B Valiant is out of Ima Classy Spit Curl, by Spit Curl Jess is conditioned by Raul Rodriguez, Jr.. The runner-up effort increased her career t earnings to $58,313.

Jrs Jeeses Cartel showed early speed before settling for third, three-quarters of a length behind Valiant Spit Curl. The 3-year-old filly earned $3,850 for the effort. Randy Edison Jr. rode Jrs Jeeses Cartel for trainer David Bustamante and owners David Bustamante and John A. Obregon.

Bred by Julien R. Stevens III, Jrs Jeeses Cartel is a daughter of Majestic Cartel from Ms Jesse Belle, by Mr Jess Perry. Her updated career earnings are $119,070.

Completing the field were Jess Another Mornin and Valentina Niebes. Smokeshow V was scratched.
