TULSA, OK–JULY 2, 2026– Twenty-seven two-year-old Paints and Appaloosas competed in four trial heats to the $83,104 Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity-G1 on Thursday night at Fair Meadows. with the ten fastest advancing to the July 18 final.
Ridden by Cody Smith, Chilinator rallied from just off the pace to overtake favored Bawitdaba in the closing strides and post the fastest qualifying time. The two-year-old Paint filly covered the 350 yards in :17.819 while earning a 92 speed index, defeating Bawitdaba by a half-length after tracking the favorite through most of the race. The 3-1 winner returned $7.40 to her backers.
The daughter of Chilitos broke her maiden with the performance after previously placing second in the Grade 1 Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity and was a finalist in the Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity final.
Bred in Wyoming by Ron Lyles, Chilinator is out of Sparklin Royal by Sixes Royal. Trainer Matt Whitekiller conditioned the filly owned by Amy and Brent Page. She has now hit the board in four of five career starts while increasing her bankroll to $58,869.
Bawitdaba settled for the second-fastest qualifying mark after stopping the timer in :17.903. The gelding showed the way throughout before being caught in the final yards by Chilinator.
The son of Crm Livewire is out of Que Magnifique by Brookstone Bay. Bred and owned by Gary and Charity Hensley of Oklahoma, he is trained by Jesus Ruben Ruiz, and was ridden by Roman Cruz. Bawitdaba entered the trials off a third-place finish in the Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity and now owns a record of one win, one second and one third from five starts with earnings of $12,399.
Collective Power secured the third-fastest qualifying time with a :17.970 clocking. The filly entered the trials off her victory in the APHA Maiden Stakes and continued her consistent form with another qualifying effort.
The daughter of Uncle D is bred and owned by Kelly J. Garvan and Lloyd Yother out of Power Fade by Painted Turnpike. She is trained by Dee Keener, and was ridden by Roman Cruz. Collective Power has compiled two wins and two third-place finishes from four starts while boosting her earnings to $14,276.
