MEXICO CITY, MEX.–JUNE 28, 2026–Br Chago turned the tables on trial rival Kc Shes Cartel to capture Sunday's $86,785 Subasta Selecta Derby at Hipódromo de las Américas, overcoming a heavy downpour and waterlogged racing surface to earn the first stakes victory of his career.
The 3-year-old colt covered the 400 yards in 19.96 seconds to earn the $36,500 winner's share of the purse while securing the first stakes victory of his career.
After finishing second to Kc Shes Cartel in their trial two weeks ago, Br Chago reversed the outcome when it mattered most, defeating the filly in the final. The colt has now finished on the board in five of seven career starts with three victories. He was also a finalist in last season's Mexico Breeders Futurity.
Br Chago races for Bronco Rider and is trained by Rene Alan Rodriguez. Mario Alberto Lopez Marmolejo rode the Maximiliano Perez-bred colt. The son of Jess Lips is out of Ocean Glory by Ocean Runaway and the Subasta Selecta Derby victory increased his career earnings to $51,525.
Kc Shes Cartel, who defeated Br Chago by a half-length in the trials as the third-fastest qualifier, finished second in the final under Arturo Vega Moreno. Racing for Cuadra Las Vegas, the Krash Cartel filly is trained by Angel Gustavo Magdaleno and was bred in Mexico by Abelardo F. Gallegos. She is out of Shes Tough Enough P by Apollitical Jess.
The runner-up has compiled six wins, two seconds and three thirds from 15 starts while earning nearly $72,000. She was third in the Mexico Derby earlier this season and also finished third in last year's Mexican Breeders Futurity. Although still seeking her first stakes victory, she added another black-type placing to her résumé.
Raptor Amadeus earned his first black-type finish with a third-place effort under Carlos Gomez. The gelding races for Zamarrero and is trained by Octavio Becerra. Bred by Arturo Olvera, he is by Tempting Splash Dash and out of Divas First Jewel by Divas First Down.
Gomez, who qualified Aliredo Dynasty and K To Be Queen during the trials, guided Raptor Amadeus to his first stakes placing. The gelding now owns a record of two wins and two thirds from 13 starts with nearly $30,000 in earnings after previously reaching the finals of last year's Mexico Breeders' Futurity Consolation.
