GRANTS PASS, OR—JUNE 28, 2026—Donald Conway's homebred Dc Ladys Dashn Eagle dug in gamely through the final strides to outfinish Da Bros Cartel by a head in Sunday's $18,100 Director's Handicap for 3-year-olds and upward at Grants Pass Downs.
Trained by Hector Magallanes and ridden by Jake Samuels, the 6-year-old multiple stakes winner covered the 350 yards in 17.211, earning a 104 speed index over a fast racing surface.
The victory was worth $9,050 from the $18,100 purse and boosted his career mark to . $96,629. Breaking from post three, Dc Ladys Dashn Eagle tracked the early leader before edging past late to secure the narrow decision.
Bred in Washington by his owner, Donald Conway, Dc Ladys Dashn Eagle is by world champion One Dashing Eagle and out of Dc Lady Juno, by Gol.
Da Bros Cartel finished a determined second, three-quarters of a length ahead of third-place finisher Bee A Freight Train. Owned by Edwin Rosales, the 5-year-old gray gelding is by champion Carters Cartel and out of Glitteratti, by Stoli.
He was bred in Oregon by Hayden Brothers Ranch and is trained by Jose Rosales Gomez. Cristofer Ochoa had the riding assignment. Also a multiple stakes winner, Da Bros Cartel has earned over $100,000 off seven wins in 27 starts.
Favorite Bee A Freight Train completed the trifecta after a solid late effort. The 6-year-old sorrel horse is owned by Alberto Avila, trained by Mario Portillo, and was ridden by Jose Guerrero. Bred in Utah by Darian Burt, he is by world champion sire Freighttrain B and out of N Bee C, by Apollitical Jess. Bee a Freight Train sold for $26,000 at the 2021 Heritage Place Yearling Sale. The multiple stakes winner has banked moreo than $140,500 with 14 wins in 29 career starts.
Fooses Flyer finished fourth, followed by Tonny Montana, Fast Movin Freight, Fivebarsdarkbeauty, Soy Catalina, Secretarysbestcard and Mr Royal Cartel, who completed the field.
