SHELBYVILLE, IN–JUNE 27, 2026–A full card of trials was featured for the second all-Quarter Horse Day of racing Saturday, June 27 with five dedicated to the Gordon Mobley Futurity to kick off the program. A total of 41 starters vied for a spot to advance to the final with Jazz Solo and Fernando Morin recording the quickest time of :17.903 seconds over the sloppy track.
Starting from post seven, Jazz Solo had a great break from the gate, getting into the early mix for the lead from the start. He vied neck and neck with Edsons Wagon and Cristian Penaloza from the inside and Little Miss Winnie and L. Daniel Martinez to his immediate inside through the initial stages of the 350 yard dash before gaining a slight advantage at the wire to win by a neck over Edsons Wagon. Smokindownthebeach and Eduardo Diaz closed gamely in the center of the track for third.
Jazz Solo is now a perfect two for two in his young career. The Indiana sired son of Encore was the race favorite, paying $4.40 for the win. Claudio Barraza trains the colt, bred and raised by Dr. Roger and Kim Beam. Francisco Rodriguez owns the freshman.
The second fastest qualifier on the day also came from the Barraza barn as the well-bred Super Shakerr won the third trial of the day for Jockey Edgar Diaz. The Escondido Beach gelding fired out of the gate with authority and never looked back, fending off a late challenge by Iriss Rose and Diego Villamil for the win by a neck in :17.919. Coup on Fire and Eduardo Diaz rounded out the trifecta of sprinters.
Super Shakerr was also the favorite, paying $4.00 for his efforts. He is owned by Campos Family Ventures and was a private purchase from Miller Ranch where Escondido Beach stood until his passing last summer. Super Shakerr is the younger full brother to CV Denali, who won last year’s Gordon Mobley Futurity Final.
HH Tessas Beach and Yovani Flores-Munoz won the other trials but did not make the top 10 qualifiers for the final.
The full field for the $195,200 Gordon Mobley Futurity Final, in order of time with jockey, includes: Jazz Solo (:17.903, Fernando Morin); Super Shakerr (:17.919, Edgar Diaz); Edsons Wagon (:17.936, Cristian Penaloza); Iriss Rose (:17.947, Diego Villamil); Apolitical Leader (:18.071, Martin Munoz); Coup on Fire (:18.083, Eduardo Diaz); Smokindownthebeach (:18.114, Eduardo Diaz); Js Beach Boy (:18.125, Fernando Morin); VRs Beach Please (:18.168, Edgar Diaz); and Hurricane Beach (:18.180, Rolando Pina).
