BG Follow My Lead Extends Win Streak in Rod Mills Memorial Derby

JEROME, ID–JUNE 21, 2026–Fastest Qualifier BG Follow My Lead extended his winning streak to four with a hard-fought victory in the $19,300 Five Livestock Company/Rod Mills Memorial Derby on June 21 at Jerome County Fair. Breaking sharply under Jose Figueroa, the gelding led from the start and held off a late challenge to score by a neck in a time of 17.518 seconds for 350 yards.

Owned by Scott and Sherry Erickson and trained by Wasey Erickson, BG Follow My Lead was bred in Oklahoma by Mike and Jay Lynn Hester. The bay gelding is sired by Capo De Capi and out of the Judys Lineage mare Skip Away Shadow.

The victory was his fourth consecutive win and improved his record to four wins and one second from five career starts. All five efforts have come in stakes company, including victories in the Rocky Mountain Classic Futurity (G1) and the Rod Mills Memorial Derby, along with a runner-up finish in the Gary & Sherilyn Blattner Memorial Derby. The $9,264 winner’s share increased his bankroll to $26,807.

Thought It Deluxe finished second under Raul Zapien after tracking the winner throughout and edging clear late for the place spot. Racing for owner-breeder Jorge Murillo and trainer Jose Pulido, the gelding is by Eagle Deluxe and out of the Foose mare Thought It Through.

He now holds a record of 10 starts with one win, five seconds, and one third while earning $16,447. His resume includes runner-up finishes in the Roche Equine Veterinary Services Futurity and the Spring Classic Maiden Frolic.

Perky Lights closed well from mid-pack to finish third, turning in what Equibase described as a “solid effort.” The filly races for owner-trainer Martin Vega and was bred by Edward and Von Zae McNellis.

She is by The Marfa Lights and out of the Walk Thru Fire mare Perky. Perky Lights is a half-sister to graded stakes winner Fire Cowboy ($388,519). Her female family includes champion and Dam of Distinction Your First Moon ($750,726) and champion Moonin The Eagle ($548,985). She now sports a record of 7-1-1-2.

Jr Dynasty Chick finished fourth, followed by Duplicate Kopy, H Two O Girl, Lus Louisiana Girl, and Stone Me Man.
