OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–MAY 29, 2026–Cardiac Cowboy won for the third time in his last four races and made his 13th trip to the winner’s circle in his career, winning an Oklahoma-bred allowance in the finale Thursday night at Remington Park. Jockey Armando Alvidrez was up as the regular rider for Cardia Cowboy.
The victory moved trainer Jason Olmstead one win closer to leading conditioner Dee Keener, who is going for his fourth training title in a row at Remington Park. Olmstead had two winners Thursday night to Keener’s one. Keener leads 40-35 in the trainer standings now.
Cardiac Cowboy, a 5-year-old Oklahoma-bred gelding by Flying Cowboy 123, out of the Carters Cartel mare Southard Cartel, won the $75,000 Mighty Deck Three Stakes in his first start of the meet here on March 8, also against Oklahoma-breds.
The multiple graded stakes-winning Cardiac Cowboy didn’t have the sharpest start, spotting Luie The First and Im Fish Hook had better starts with the ladder continuing to persevere. After 100 yards, Alvidrez had Cardiac Cowboy on the move and he glided easily to the front, never threatened again. The 40-1 longshot, Im Fish Hook, and Racys Pilot, at 5-1 odds, dead-heated for second. The margin of victory for Cardiac Cowboy was a half-length.
Cardiac Cowboy was sent off at 1-5 odds as the heavy favorite and paid $2.60 to win and $2.10 to place and show. The winner earned $26,325 from the $45,500 allowance purse and improved lifetime to 31 starts, 13 wins, three seconds and five thirds for a hefty bankroll of $471,586. He was bred by Jo Rice and is owned by Tom and Lou Ann Smith and Amber Olmstead of Pryor, Okla.
Running time for the 300 yards was :15.181 over the fast track and Cardiac Cowboy earned a 99 speed index. Im Fish Hook went off as a huge longshot because he was coming out of a claiming non-winners of two career race event and facing more than one multiple stakes winner in this field. Racys Pilot had run second two races back against open allowance company.
Just two race dates remain in this spring season at Remington Park. Action continues Friday and Saturday, May 29 & 30. The first race Friday is at 6pm. The final program on Saturday, Champions Night, features a dozen stakes events with total purses topping $2.7 million. The headliner is the richest race in Oklahoma, the $1,158,940 Heritage Place Futurity. The first race Saturday is at 5pm. All times are Central.
