AJAX, CAN–MAY 29, 2026– Richard Wincikaby's PEIGHNTMEADIAMOND served notice that he will be a horse to watch in the older male ranks at Ajax Downs this year after a sizzling win in Wednesday's featured allowance race. The tall. lanky 4-year-old Ontario sired and bred Quarter Horse gelding was making his first start since October but showed no signs of rust, sweeping to a half-length win over previously undefeated 3-year-old filly Chillin With Peeps.

Peightmeadiamond, who is trained by Joe Tavares, was partnered by his regular rider Brian Bell and the pair wound up being favoured as the shrewd fans made them 8 to 5. Chillin With Peeps, owned, trained and bred by Chantelle Bourgeois, was a strong second while facing older horses for the first time with Embrace Your Fate finishing third. The time for 300 yards was a sharp 15.612 for a 92 speed index.

Peighntmeadiamond has come close to winning several stakes races in his young career and he tends to do his best racing at longer distances.

"I was kind of worried about the distance [on Wednesday], but he has been training stronger this year," said Bell. "We haven't seen the best out of him yet, but it's coming."

Peighntmeadiamond is a rare Ajax Downs runner as he was produced from a Thoroughbred mare. The gelding's dam, Swingwiththering, won over $280,000 racing at Woodbine and Fort Erie. She produced a Thoroughbred filly who was a winner before she was bred to Peighnt Your Fate, a well-bred Ontario Quarter Horse stallion owned by Wincikaby, who hails from Alliston.

The victory by the gelding on May 27 was also fitting as his dam Swingwiththering traces back to the great Canadian Thoroughbred racehorse and sire Northern Dancer, who was born 65 years ago on May 27.

The remarkable stallion MARYLAND MAGIC won for the 26th time in his illustrious career on Wednesday, taking a 300-yard speed index dash for owner Milena Kwiecien and trained Jason Pascoe. The 12-year-old has also produced numerous winners as a stallion and in this most recent win, he finished two necks and a nose in front of his daughter, Magic in Wonderland.

Racing continues at Ajax Downs next Wednesday, June 3 with a first race post time of 3:30 p.m.
