Dads Racy Te Scores First Stakes Victory In $38,000 Energy Downs Stakes

GILLETTE, WY–MAY 24, 2026–Dads Racy Te surged late to capture the $38,000 Energy Downs Stakes at Energy Downs 307 Horse Racing on Sunday afternoon, earning the first stakes victory of his career in a sharp effort at 400 yards over a fast track.

Ridden by Cerapio Figueroa for owner Kimberly Skaggs and trainer Robby Overturf, the gray gelding broke well and finished strongly to defeat a tough field while stopping the timer in :19.746 seconds with a 106 speed index. The son of Big Daddy Cartel defeated runner-up Yo Morning Delite by three-quarters of a length.

Bred in New Mexico by Mark and Peggy Brown, Dads Racy Te was a $30,000 graduate of the Ruidoso New Mexico Bred Sale. He is out of the winning Mr Jess Perry mare Jessa Techick, a half-sister to stakes winners Mr Pie Chick ($149,589), Scream N Eagle ($71,341), and Blueeyedeagle ($42,802). His second dam is stakes winner Linda Te Chick ($139,674).

Although already an established stakes competitor, the Energy Downs Stakes marked the gelding’s first black-type victory. Prior to Sunday’s score, he had finished third in the Lobo Derby and was a finalist in three additional stakes events. The $19,000 winner’s share of the purse increased his bankroll to $138,291 from a record of 20 starts with five wins, three seconds, and four thirds.

Multiple stakes winner Yo Morning Delite, ridden by Jacob Cardenas, finished second after setting the early pace before being outfinished late. The gelding covered the distance in :19.857 with a 104 speed index for breeder and owner Gerald Kaul and trainer Jess Matt.

The son of Brindis Por Cayenne out of the Southern Corona mare RS Afternoon Delite entered the race off a fourth-place effort in the WABRA Wyoming Bred Maturity. Already a nine-time stakes winner, Yo Morning Delite’s record includes victories in the Wyoming Accredited Stallion Owners Derby and the Rock Springs Wyoming Bred Derby. He now sports a career record of 33-19-3-2 with earnings of $242,621.

Glock 9 and jockey Julian Zavala finished third after a solid inside effort, posting a :19.896 clocking and 103 speed index for owner and breeder Mike Isom and trainer Kylie Valenzuela.

The gelding is by Glock and out of the Sushiwood mare Stoliwood. Still seeking his first stakes victory, Glock 9 has been stakes placed and previously qualified to the Energy Downs 307 Open Futurity, Wyoming Downs Futurity, and Young Ford/Wyoming Downs Derby. He now carries a record of 13-2-4-3 with earnings of $35,427.

Kcross Comin In Hot finished fourth, followed by Fire Of The Mountain, Cowboyhatbygucci, Dangerous Dude, Outlaw Jess, and Pappas Fame. Shaundas Eagle was scratched from the field.
