Lethal N Rojo Stays Perfect With Horsemens Div. 1 Derby Victory At Century Mile

EDMONTON, CAN–MAY 16, 2026– Homebred filly Lethal N Rojo remained undefeated Saturday afternoon at Century Mile Racetrack when she rallied late to capture the $21,550 Horsemens Div. 1 Derby under jockey Alexander Marti.

Owned and bred by Jane Leech and trained by William Leech, the sorrel filly covered the 350 yards in :17.651 while earning a 101 speed index over a fast racing surface.

The victory marked her first career stakes win and pushed her earnings to $16,681.

Breaking from post five, Lethal N Rojo stalked the early pace before finishing strongest in the final strides to pull clear by one-half length at the wire.

Sent off at 11-1 odds, the daughter of Lethal N First out of the stakes-winning Sizzlin Red Corona mare Erica Rae improved to a perfect three-for-three lifetime record.

Wagon Burner 109 and jockey Miguel Lopez finished second after pressing the pace throughout and briefly gaining the advantage late before being caught near the finish.

The gelding stopped the timer in :17.719 with a 98 speed index for owner Our One Bad Habit and trainer Buckey Stockwell.

Bred by John and Karyn Rafa, Wagon Burner 109 now sports a 6-1-1-1 record with earnings of $13,929. The son of JD Wagon Boss out of Jumpn Georgia Peach was previously fourth in the Grade 3 Alberta Bred Futurity and a finalist in the Grade 3 Canada Cup Futurity.

Jess The Train, ridden by O. Hernandez, completed the trifecta for trainer Buckey Stockwell and owners Commotion Creek Contracting and WT Ranches Ltd. The filly broke sharply and set the pressured pace early before being outfinished late, crossing the wire third in :17.755 with a 97 speed index.

The daughter of Freighttrain B now owns a 5-2-0-1 record and has previously finished fourth in both the Grade 3 Canada Cup Futurity and the Albuquerque Juvenile Stakes.

Cervezas Fire finished fourth, followed by West Southwest and One Tough Cerveza to complete the order of finish. Santana Chicka was scratched
