POCATLLO DOWNS, ID–MAY 3, 2026– Three trial heats were contested May 3 at Pocatello Downs to determine the finalists for the $10,000-added Gary & Sharilyn Blattner Derby, with three-year-olds racing 350 yards. The final is scheduled for May 25.
Slreasonwithattitude and jockey Santiago Jimenez secured the fastest qualifying time of :17.706, earning a 96 speed index while winning the second trial by 3/4- length. The filly broke sharply and was much the best throughout for owner, breeder, and trainer Sergio Leon.
Bred by Jaime and Martiniano Leon, she is by Grade 1 finalist Good Candy P and out of the Sixthirteen (TB) mare Lil Touch Of Dixie, a stakes winner. Slreasonwithattitude now holds a record of 4-2-0-0 and was coming off a finalist effort in last year’s Firecracker Futurity at Grants Pass Downs.
Dashing Deluxe posted the second-fastest qualifying time of :17.787 with a 94 speed index, winning the first trial under Raul Zapien. The filly broke from the rail and held firm to the wire, winning by one length for owners Edilberto, Luis, and Salvador Gomez.
Bred by Erin Chrisman and trained by Luis Gomez, the daughter of Eagle Deluxe is a $8,500 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate. She is out of the stakes-winning Heza Fast Dash mare Bipity Dash ($276,646) and now owns a 6-4-0-0 record.
Kr Cartels Calamity, a colt by Five Bar Cartel, finished second to the fastest qualifier while stopping the clock in :17.824 for a 93 speed index. He was bred by Kidd Ranch and is owned by Luis A. Gonzales, trained by Abelardo Gonzalez, and ridden by Cesar Moreno.
A $12,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate, he is out of Kr Calamity, a half-sister to stakes winner Marseille ($102,052), with second dam KR Dragonfly ($158,607).
The Gary & Sharilyn Blattner Derby final on May 25 is expected to feature a tightly matched group, with the top qualifiers separated by just over a tenth of a second following a competitive night of trials over a fast racing surface.
