SE Carver Cruzan Wins Gabriel Cue Sacre Classic

MEXICO CITY, MEX–April 19, 2026—SE Carver Cruzan earned his eighth career victory Sunday evening at Hipódromo de las Américas, capturing the $11,015 Gabriel Cue Sacre Classic under jockey Alejandro Gómez Díaz. The chestnut stallion completed the 350 yards in :17.87 seconds to secure the win.

Breaking from post position two for Cuadra Santa Elena, SE Carver Cruzan was away well and carried his speed to the wire. Trained and bred by Joaquin Ramon Pelaez Cortes, the six-year-old horse continues to add to a steady body of work, including a fourth-place finish in the Francisco Pasquel Classic just last month.

With the win, SE Carver Cruzan improved his career record to 25-8-5-6. The winner’s share of the purse boosts his earnings to approximately $117,800.

SE Carver Cruzan is a son of Wave Carver out of JA Jess Cruzan by Mr Jess Perry. His sire, Wave Carver, a five-time stakes winner and millionaire, compiled a career record of 18-11-5-0. His record is highlighted by victories in the Grade 1 Champion of Champions and the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Super Derby.

Pre-race favorite El Cuervo Favorito, sent off at 6-5, finished second for Cuadra JJ under jockey H. Gomez, who now shows 37 starts with 6 wins, 11 seconds and 4 thirds.

Trained by Leonilo Cruz Garcia, the 8-year-old gelded son of Favorite Cartel out of Super Perla Negra, bred in California by Steve D. Burns, now holds a career record of 47-4-9-8. With the runner-up finish, his earnings increase to approximately $36,550 USD.

Br Secretario rounded out the top three for Cuadra Bronco Rider under jockey M. A. Lopez M., who now shows 24 starts with 3 wins, 1 second and 6 thirds.

Trained by Luis Aldo Flores Muñoz, the 4-year-old gelded son of Southern Corona out of Down To Separating, bred by Maximiliano Perez C., now holds a career record of 12-1-2-3. With the third-place finish, his earnings increase to approximately $10,270 USD.

The Gabriel Cue Sacre Classic opened the Sunday program and preceded a series of four trial heats for the $72,000 Garañones Derby later on the card.
