OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–MARCH 15, 2026–The upsets just keep on rolling at Remington Park in the feature race. Sunday, it was Freight Lyner, at 23-1 odds, handling his six foes in an allowance for Oklahoma-breds at 300 yards.
Jockey Jimmy Brooks made the toteboard light up like a Fourth of July sky when he booted home the 4-year-old son of Freighttrain B, out of the Louisiana Cartel mare JS Abel Dasher, in the nightcap.
Trainer Eddie Willis saw his winner pay $49 to win on a $2 win ticket, $17 to place and $7.60 to show. Most of the win money was put on the 3-5 odds-on favorite Relentless American, who could only beat one horse in the seven-horse field.
Flying Wrangler (3-1) took the lead out of the gate and was still showing the way halfway through the race for 3-year-olds and older, after trainer Stacey Capps took the blinkers off for this race. But that runner-up could not fend off the longshot in the final strides of the race.
Freight Lyner earned $23,040 for the victory from the $41,180 allowance purse which was written for horses that had not won a race since Sept. 15, 2025, or had not won four races lifetime. Freight Lyner fit into either condition, having not won since July 26, 2024 when he was victorious in a futurity trial at the Downs at Albuquerque in New Mexico.
He also showed he likes Remington Park and this distance. Freight Lyner now has won three of five, going 300 yards and two of his four career wins have been here. He broke his maiden at Remington Park on March 16, 2024.
Freight Lyner improved his record to 12 starts, four wins, one second and one third for a bankroll of $54,524. He was bred by James Sills and Abel Flores and is owned by Sills of Cedar Hill, Texas.
Running time for the winner was :15.288 on the fast track and he earned a 96 speed index, most of that coming from a northwest tailwind that was consistently above 30mph for the entire card on Sunday. Flying Wrangler lost by a neck and was another nose in front of third-place finisher Mistakin Idenity.
The $49 winner completed a Pick 4 sequence that paid $711.45. The other winners in the late Pick 4 were Money Bak (6-1 in the seventh race), Dulces Fire Z (9-5, eighth), and Valiant Spit Curl (5-2, ninth).
Remington Park racing resumes Thursday thru Sunday, March 19-22. The historic Oklahoma Futurity, worth $435,395 this year, is the headliner on Saturday, March 21, a program that will feature total purses of more than $1,000,000. The first race nightly is 6pm with Sunday racing at 4pm. All times are Central.
