PHOENIX, AZ–JANUARY 1, 2026–Goodbye Tyme scored a wire-to-wire victory in the $17,800 AQRA Turf Paradise Open Quarter Horse Derby Consolation on Wednesday afternoon.
Breaking cleanly from the rail, the sorrel gelding quickly established command and never relinquished the lead, stopping the clock in 19.690 seconds for the 400 yards. Under a confident ride from Oscar Andrade Jr., he drifted slightly late but had enough in reserve to hold safe by three-quarters of a length at the wire, earning a 101 speed index and $10,502 for the victory.
Goodbye Tyme is trained by Matt Fales for owners/breeders Carolyn and Ralph Fales. He is by Tell Cartel out of Ms Patty Cake, by Texas Icon.
From nine career starts, Goodbye Tyme has recorded two wins and one second with earnings of $23,350. As a juvenile, he placed fifth in the Grade 3 Wild West Futurity.
After a rider’s objection, Masters Hand was disqualified from second and placed fourth for causing interference in the stretch drive. That decision elevated Sassy Angel into the runner-up position, with High Flying Cowgirl moving up to third.
Runner-up Sassy Angel finished second, just a nose behind the disqualified runner, after making a determined late run despite bearing in through the stretch. The sorrel filly, was ridden by David Alvarez Jr. for trainer Joe Davis and owner Cornerstone Stables.
Bred by Bollenbach Farms LP, Sassy Angel is a daughter of Flying Cowboy 123 and out of Sassy Irish Lassie, by Walk Thru Fire. From eight starts, she has posted three wins, one second, one third, and earnings of $41,662. She was a finalist in last year’s All American Futurity Juvenile.
High Flying Cowgirl was elevated to third after being crowded and pushed late in the stretch, but she stayed on to secure the show spot under Edwin G. Escobedo. The Oklahoma-bred filly is trained by Joe Davis for owners Bill Medlin and Kaylee Escobedo
Bred by Rigby and Brumby Partnership, the daughter of Flying Cowboy 123 is out of High Flying Val, by Valiant Hero. From 17 starts, High Flying Cowgirl has recorded two wins, four seconds, and three thirds, with total earnings of $74,185. She won the Gary Waite Maiden Stakes earlier this season.
