HOBBS, NM–DECEMBER 14, 2025– Apollitical Boogie J earned his first career stakes victory Sunday afternoon at Zia Park, digging in late to capture the $100,000 James Isaac Hobbs Stakes (G2) for 3-year-olds and upward.

Ridden by Jorge Nieto-Saenz, Apollitical Boogie J brushed at the break and engaged in a duel before edging clear late to score by a neck. The sorrel gelding completed the 350 yards in 17.318 seconds, earning a 96 speed index over a fast track. The race was ran under cloudy skies with a 5 mph headwind.

Trained by Jose DeHerrera for owners Paul Blanchard, Javier M. Chavez and Heysol Howlet, Apollitical Boogie J is by six-time all-time leading single-season sire of money earners Apollitical Jess and out of This Boogie Fires, a winning mare by Walk Thru Fire who finished third in the Kindergarten Futurity (G1). Foaled in California and bred by Jaime H. Gomez, the gelding earned the $58,200 winner’s share, boosting his lifetime bankroll to $136,211. He now holds a career record of 23-4-5-3. This win marked his first stakes victory after a third-place finish earlier this year in the John Andreini Memorial.

Second went to Bp Moonlight, who closed strongly under Joseph Belloc, Jr. The gelding is by Moonin The Eagle and out of the Southern Cartel mare BP Shes Southern, a multiple graded stakes winner. Trained by Sebastian Gonzales for owner David Pena-Marrufo, Bp Moonlight has a career record of 21-5-7-4 with earnings of $268,131. He remains in search of his first stakes win after runner-up efforts in the Balloon City Stakes (G2) and a third-place finish in the Junos Request Stakes (G1) earlier this season.

Flyingfooserageous finished third after chasing throughout. Ridden by Noe Garcia, Jr., the gelding is by leading first-crop sire of all time Flying Cowboy 123 and out of BF Fooserageous, a multiple stakes-winning mare by Foose. Trained by Wesley Giles for owners Ronald J. and Sandra K. Carroll, Flyingfooserageous now owns a career record of 12-3-3-2 and was a stakes finalist earlier this year in the Ruidoso Invitational.

Sent off at odds of 27-1, Apollitical Boogie J returned $56.60 to win, $20.80 to place, and $10.40 to show. Bp Moonlight paid $3.60 and $2.60, while Flyingfooserageous returned $3.60 to show. The $1 exacta with Apollitical Boogie J over Bp Moonlight paid $133.90, the 50-cent trifecta returned $221.50, and the 10-cent superfecta paid $251.65.

O Seeyalater, Razor Sharp, Cardiac Cowboy, Baby Ruth, Political Motions, and Flash Divine completed the field.
