AJAX, ONTARIO–OCTOBER 13, 2025–The Batmann surged past the post-time favorite to capture his first career stakes victory in the $40,326 (U.S) Ontario Sired Stakes Derby at Ajax Downs on Monday afternoon.

Under jockey Helen Vanek, the The Batmann stopped the clock in 17.733 seconds with a 98 speed index, defeating Peighntmeadiamond by a head and returning $18.00 to win on 8/1 odds.

The Batmann is a 3-year-old son of Caviar And Corona out of Elenorr by Mr Jess Tex. Bred in Ontario by his trainer, Scott Reid and Carly Furlonger, he races for Scott Reid and John Wilson.

Monday’s triumph added $16,131 to his bankroll, boosting his lifetime earnings to $63,679 from 17 starts with 4 wins, 4 seconds, and 4 thirds. The Batmann entered the Derby after finishing second in the Ontario Bred Derby and qualifying for the Norman Picov Derby earlier this season.

Runner-up Peighntmeadiamond, ridden by Brian Bell for trainer Joe Tavares and owner Richard Wincikaby, closed fast after a sluggish start to finish in 17.873 seconds with a 94 speed index.

The bay gelding is by Peighnt Your Fate and out of Swingwiththering-TB by Where’s the Ring-TB. Bred in Ontario by Richard Wincikaby and Katie Browne, Peighntmeadiamond has made 15 starts, compiling 2 wins, 4 seconds, and 3 thirds, and $52,797 in earnings.

Cg Mega Spy, piloted by J. Botello for trainer Jason Pascoe and owner-breeder Caroline Girard, was another neck back in third. The bay colt is by Spy For The Senate and out of Megas Pride by Megas Vukefalos-TB.

He finished in 17.891 seconds with a 94 speed index, earning his first black-type placing. From 15 starts, he has 2 wins, 3 seconds, and 2 thirds, with $27,337 in earnings.

The remaining order of finish was Elvis the Famous, Magic in Wonderland, Look Twice, Stolin Secrets, Miss Silky Magic, Runaway Fate, and DQ–Last Cold Bud.
