Captain Fancy Prevails in Henry Bowlan Memorial Stakes

CLAREMORE, OK—SEPTEMBER 29, 2025—Captain Fancy broke sharply and never looked back in Monday’s running of the $15,000 Henry Bowlan Memorial Stakes at Will Rogers Downs, drawing clear to score by three-quarters of a length in the 300-yard event for Paints and Appaloosas three years old and upward.

With Juan Pulido in the irons, the three-year-old bay filly covered the distance in 15.423 seconds, earning a 96 speed index aided by an eight-mph tailwind on a fast track.

The daughter of Im the Captain Now out of Nd Bunny Jet by Major Rime is owned and trained by Heber Deyta-Melendez. She was bred in North Dakota by Randal E. Schwartz. Her victory was worth $9,282 to her connections and boosted her earnings to $36,007.

Wire Tap, a gelding by leading APHA sire CRM Livewire out of Lindys Sign by Second Painted Sign, turned in a game effort to finish second under Cody Smith. The Oklahoma-bred is trained by Matt Whitekiller for owners Dan and Kaye Jones and was bred by Dan or Kaye Jones.

He earned $2,934 for the runner-up effort, finishing a neck in front of the third-place horse. A multiple stakes winner Wire Tap has won seven of 25 starts and banked $96,766.

Over The Shock, also by CRM Livewire and out of Dont Look Ethel by Streak and Dash, finished a neck behind Wire Tap to earn third place under Francisco Calderon. The gelding is trained by Matt Whitekiller for owner Robin Haggard and was bred in Oklahoma by Whitekiller. His effort added $1,702 to bring his career bankroll to $108,919.

Pari-mutuel payoffs returned $5.00 to win, $4.20 to place, and $2.60 to show on Captain Fancy. Wire Tap paid $6.60 to place and $4.20 to show, while Over The Shock returned $3.20 to show.

Following the top three finishers, the order of finish was Chief Iron Eagle, Chicks Dig Tate, Queen for Cash, Wl Karma, and Am Dashing Livewire.
