CLAREMORE, OK—SEPTEMBER 15, 2025—Three trials for the $72,900 Pot O Gold Futurity were contested Monday afternoon at Will Rogers Downs, featuring 25 Paint and Appaloosa juveniles. The three trial winners returned the top three of ten fastest qualifying times for the September 29 final in this order: Turbulent, Mamasletthembecowboys, and Big Poppy.
Turbulent, the fastest qualifier, delivered a gritty effort under jockey Roman Cruz to stop the clock in 17.943 seconds, posting an 83 speed index while running into a 10 mph headwind.
The Painted Turnpike filly surged to the front at first call and held strong at the wire, finishing 1 1/4-lengths ahead of Upshot and post-time favorite Cuz Eyema Cowboy Baby. She now boasts five wins from eight career starts and $117,617 in earnings for owner 918 Bloodstock and trainer Dee Keener.
Bred in Oklahoma by Alexia Willis, Turbulent is out of the SF Royal Quick Flash mare Turbulence. Mamasletthembecowboys broke his maiden in style with the second-fastest qualifying mark of the day. The Flying Cowboy 123 gelding, guided by jockey Francisco Raul Ramirez Jr., dueled gamely down the stretch before edging Pretty Lil Poison by a half-length at the wire.
He covered the 350 yards in 17.975 seconds, earning an 82 speed index. Trained by Stacey Capps for owners-breeders Mark and Lori Dolan, Mamasletthembecowboys sports a record of 1-2-2 from seven starts and $12,921 in earnings. Out of the Awesome Chrome mare Aguascalientes, he was third in the Oklahoma P&A Juvenile-G1 and a finalist in the Speedhorse P&A Futurity-G1 earlier this season.
Rounding out the trio of trial winners, Big Poppy secured the third-fastest time for owner-breeders Newcomb Cattle Co. and trainer Kevin Willis. With Jimmy Dean Brooks in the irons, the Hes Relentless colt posted his best career effort in the Pot O Gold trials, breaking his maiden in 18.017 seconds.
Out of the CRM Livewire mare Twisted Fashion, Big Poppy has shown consistency with one win, one runner-up finish and one third from six starts, totaling $10,320. He previously ran fourth in the Oklahoma P&A Juvenile-G1.
