Relentless Purrsuit Holds On Gamely to Win Prairie Meadows Gold Derby

ALTOONA, IA—JULY 13, 2025—Relentless Purrsuit, a three-year-old brown gelding by champion Hes Relentless out of Redheads Run Hotter by One Sweet Jess, delivered a determined finish to capture the $118,375 Prairie Meadows Gold Derby on Sunday afternoon at Prairie Meadows Race Course.

Bred and owned by Charles and Elizabeth Horton of Oklahoma, the gelding is trained by Jason L. Olmstead and was ridden to victory by jockey Ramiro Garcia. He covered the 350 yards on a fast track in 17.625, earning a speed index of 91 with no wind recorded. The win added $53,269 to his earnings.

It was the first black type victory for the colt who was third in the Black Gold Colts & Gedings Futurity and a finalist in the Prairie Meadows Gold Futurity and Heritage Place Derby(G2). He has earned $163,1214 with six wins in 15 career starts,

Just a head back in second was fastest qualifier Im Missmerized, a gray filly by champion Kvn Corona out of Missmerizing by Pyc Paint Your Wagon, bred by McColee Land & Livestock LLC of Utah.

Owned by Alazanas Racing Inc., trained by James J. Gonzales II and ridden by Joseph Belloc, Jr., the filly fought hard through the final yards to earn $21,307 for her connections. A finalist in the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity at Remington Park last season, Im Missmerized has earned $95,420.

Finishing in a dead-heat for third were Flying Bandida and Relentless Rocket. Both runners collected $9,469 for their efforts.

Flying Bandida, a gray filly by leading third-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 out of Meaningful Memories by Pyc Paint Your Wagon, was bred by Shari A. Burger of Oklahoma and is owned by Burger along with Vickie McBee.

She is trained by Jason L. Olmstead and was piloted by jockey Glenn W. Corbett. Second in the Prairie Meadows Gold Futurity last year and a finalist in the Heritage Place Oaks(G2) and Remington Park Oaks this year, she has earned $140,378.

Relentless Rocket, a brown gelding by Hes Relentless out of Mai Corona by Corona Cartel, was bred by Tom and Bill Maher of South Dakota and races for Tom Maher.

Also trained by Olmstead, the multiple stakes winner was ridden by Mark A. Jasso. Winner of the Northlands Futurity and Valley Junction Juvenile, Relentless Rocket has won five of 13 starts and banked $93,195.

Relentless Purrsuit returned $4.80 to win, $3.20 to place and $2.20 to show. Im Missmerized paid $6.80 to place and $2.80 to show. Flying Bandida returned $2.20 to show while Relentless Rocket paid $3.40 to show.

Also finishing in the Prairie Meadows Gold Derby were Too Sixy by Far (5th), Ct Walking Thru (6th), Rebelutionary (7th), Kool Dynasty (8th), and The Criminal (9th). Anna Belle was scratched.
