TULSA, OK—JULY 2, 2025—Turnpike Jammer set the bar high for this year’s Grade 1 $40,000-added Speedhorse Paint and Appaloosa Futurity, posting the fastest qualifying time from four competitive 350-yard trials held on July 3 at Fair Meadows.
The final is slated for July 12, 2025, and will showcase a strong field of 2-year-old Paints and Appaloosas sired by participating stallions.
Owned by Carla Akers and Randy D. Perkins, Turnpike Jammer broke well and held his advantage to win by a neck in the final trial, stopping the clock in 17.931 seconds into an 8 mph headwind.
Bred in Texas by Roy Kent Perkins, the gray colt is by standout sire Painted Turnpike out of Mammy Jammer, by Crm Livewire. He is conditioned by trainer Ray A. Enlow and will be piloted in the final by jockey Erik N. Esqueda
Runner-up in the $125,650 Grade 1 Speedhorse Graham Paint and Appaloosa Futurity at Remington Park two race back, Turnpike Jammer has won two of six starts and earned $40,095.
Second-fastest qualifier honors went to Mamasletthembecowboys, who crossed the wire just behind Turnpike Jammer in the same heat. The 2-year-old colt, owned and bred by Mark and Lori Dolan of Oklahoma, posted a qualifying time of 17.972.
Sired by leading Quarter Horse sire Flying Cowboy 123 and out of Aguascalientes by the accomplished Awesome Chrome, Mamasletthembecowboys is trained by Stacey L. Capps with Eugenio Alberto Navarrete, Jr. set to riding. Winless in four starts, he was third in a stakes at Remington Park last March.
Rounding out the top three is Cuz Eyema Cowboy Baby, who dominated his heat by one and a quarter lengths with a clocking of 17.989, earning the third-fastest mark.
The sorrel gelding is another by Flying Cowboy 123 and is out of Cuz Eyema Livewire by Crm Livewire. Bred and owned by Gary and Charity Hensley, the Oklahoma-bred youngster is trained by Jesus Ruben Ruiz and will be guided by jockey Roman Cruz. A finalist in the Grade 1 Oklahoma Paint and Appaloosa Futurity he has earned $12,845.
All three contenders showed tremendous early speed and finishing grit under clear skies and fast track conditions, promising an exciting showdown in the $40,000-added final on July 12.
The lucrative futurity continues its tradition as one of the premier events for 2-year-old Paint and Appaloosa runners in Oklahoma, giving these young athletes an early chance to shine on the big stage.
