MILLARVILLE, ALB–JULY 1, 2025–Flash Me A Corona fought off a determined challenge to win the Millarville Maturity on July 1 at Millarville, covering 300 yards in a swift 15.486 seconds with a Speed Index of 93.
Battling a 13 mph headwind on a fast track, the 3-year-old brown gelding by Obsessed With Corona out of Look Back Moonflash, by First Moonflash, was bred in Alberta by Ralph Danard and races for owners Janet Patriquin and Ralph E. Danard.
Trained by Craig Smith and ridden confidently by Trevor Simpson, Flash Me A Corona earned $7,790(US) of the $13,375(US) purse for his efforts. He was a 2023 AQHRA Yearling Sale purchase for $7,400 and held on gamely to win by a head.
Uncommon Soldier, a 4-year-old chestnut gelding by Favorite Soldier out of Sis Tar, by Fastnfierce, pressed the winner all the way but settled for second, beaten just a head.
The Montana-bred runner was bred, owned, and trained by Clifton G. Dennis and ridden by Ryan Nelson. He collected $3,821(US) for the effort.
Rounding out the top three was Cd Brookstone Boogie, a 7-year-old brown mare by Brookstone Bay out of Hoopdaloop (TB), by Dixieland Band (TB).
Bred in Oregon by Steve D. Dickinson and owned and trained by Clifton G. Dennis, the mare ran on for third under jockey Odeen Edwards, finishing four lengths behind the runner-up, good for $1,764 in earnings.
Flash Me A Corona returned $3.60 to win and $2.10 to place, while Uncommon Soldier paid $2.10 to place. The $2 Daily Double paid $11.00 and the $2 Exactor returned $4.90.
There were no other runners in the three-horse field.
