Rancho Las Gaviotas Lands Three in Subasta Selecta Derby Final, Including Top Two Qualifiers

MEXICO CITY, MEX—JUNE 8, 2025– Thirty sophomores competed across four heats on Sunday evening for one of the ten coveted spots in the upcoming $94,172 Subasta Selecta Derby, which will run on Sunday, June 22.

Rancho Las Gaviotas is entering the finals with a strong advantage, having qualified three runners. This includes the two fastest times: CC First Dance and CC Regal Jack. Additionally, they also campaigned Rg Beautiful Jewel, who secured the eighth-fastest qualifying time of the night.

Under jockey H. Gomez, CC First Dance delivered a commanding performance in the first heat. Although she broke third from the gate, she quickly surged to the front and took control by the first call, powering down the stretch to win by 2 1/2 lengths over The Big Red.

CC First Dance stopped the timer in 19.496 seconds, clocking a 95 speed index. Trained by Marlon Quezada for Rancho Las Gaviotas, she posted the fastest qualifying time of the day and stamped herself as the one to beat in the final.

Carlos Espinoza bred CC First Dance out of Dance With Jessie, by Corona Cartel. The three-year-old filly by First Dinastia has lit the board nine of 12 starts with seven wins and nearly $42,000 in the bank. She placed fifth in the Mexico Derby earlier this season.

CC Regal Jack, who captured the third trial with the second fastest qualifying time, showed early speed and fought off Dk Torito Cartel to win by half a length. Guided by jockey M. A. Lopez M., he crossed the wire in 19.570, earning a 93 speed index.

Also trained by Quezada for Rancho Las Gaviotas, CC Regal Jack has a record of 3-2-2 from 13 starts and $23,000 in earnings. He was runner-up in last year’s Arcadio Espinosa Classic and placed fourth in this year’s Mexico Derby. Also bred by Espinoza, the son of A Regal Choice is out of Jumpn Jackie, by Jumpn.
