AJAX, ONT–JUNE 5, 2025–Sw The Lion King posted the fastest qualifying time from two trials on Wednesday, June 4 in the $30,000-added Unclassified NB 79 Maturity (not black type) at Ajax Downs.
The 3-year-old gelding ridden by J.B. Botello clocked 17.010 seconds in the 330-yard trial, narrowly defeating Annie Best by a nose in a photo finish. The post-time favorite's victory paid $3.40 to win on a $2.00 wager.
The son of Sw The Game Changer has now won two straight from four starts this season. Trainer Jason Pascoe conditions him for owner Tim Wettlaufer. He was bred in Oklahoma by Sherry A. Wingfield out of Rockin Miss Kitty by Pyc Paint Your Wagon.
Rr Illbeurhucklebery qualified as the second fastest after winning the second trial in front-running fashion. The 3-year-old gelding stopped the clock in 17.267 seconds and earned an 86 speed index in a minor upset over Cg Mega Spy. The effort paid $10.70 to win.
The son of Coronado Cartel has now won two of three career starts, including a maiden-breaking effort in May. Rr Illbeurhucklebery is trained by Joe Tavares and ridden by Brian Bell.
Owned by Jennifer Zurowski and bred in Oklahoma by Reliance Ranches LLC, he is out of Huckleberry Mojito by Feature Mr Jess. The three-year-old gelding was a $15,000 graduate of the Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale,
The Unclassified NB 79 Maturity is restricted to 3-year-olds and up who had never posted a speed index better than 79 at the time of nomination. The final, offering a $30,000-added purse, will be held June 25 at Ajax Downs.
