GILLETTE, WY—JUNE 1, 2025–A total of nine trial heats were contested Sunday at Energy Downs 307 Horse Racing to determine the ten qualifiers for the $100,000-added Energy Downs Futurity final, set for June 22, 2025.
Posting the quickest time of the day was Cowboy Candy 123, who stopped the clock in 15.295 in the sixth trial while defeating rival Mi Leaving You by three-quarters of a length.
The Texas-bred filly is by leading 2-year-old sire Flying Cowboy 123 and out of Favorite Candy by Good Reason Sa. She is owned by Karla Diaz Gomez and Oscar Jaime Diaz, trained by Javier Fuentes, and was ridden to victory by David A. Alvarez.
Bred in Texas by Stanley Forbes, Cowboy Candy 123 was a $57,000 purchase from the 2024 HP Yearling Sale, and showed her value with a sharp gate-to-wire score.
It was the first win in two starts for the filly who was a troubled sixth in her career debut April 25, a trial for the Four Corners Futurity at SunRay Park. Cowboy Candy 123 has banked $2,550 in two starts.
Right behind her on the qualifying list is Flashing Lights, who recorded a time of 15.306 in the trial 4. The Louisiana-bred filly is by multiple stakes sire The Marfa Lights and out of Cara Cara by Teller Cartel.
She is owned by Giovanni Ortiz, trained by Jose Rivas Guzman, and was ridden by Minor Arana. Bred by in Louisiana by Paris Wixon, Flashing Lights was not offered at public auction but looked every bit a professional in her two-length trial victory.
It was the first win in three starts for Flashing Lights who finished third in the $98,716 Behive Futurity at Weber Downs in April. She has earned $14,706.
Flashing Lights dam, Cara Cara, sold in-foal with the filly for $16,000 in the 2023 Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale.
The top ten qualifiers emerged from a diverse group of juveniles representing leading sires including Flying Cowboy 123, Cyber Monday, Hes Innocent, Corona Leaving You, and Dulce Sin Tacha.
Several finalists were acquired at public auctions, including Innocent Down Perry, a $17,000 purchase from the 2024 Heritage Place Yearling Sale, and You Got Litt Up, who sold for $12,000 at the same venue.
The $100,000-added Energy Downs Futurity final on June 22 promises to be a wide-open contest with early speed and strong finishing times across the board. But all eyes will be on Cowboy Candy 123 and Flashing Lights as they attempt to turn their trial efforts into a lucrative futurity win.
