EDMONTON, ALB–MAY 31, 2025–Following two rounds of trials on Saturday at Century Mile, Cervezas Fire and Insta Bond emerged as the two fastest qualifiers for the upcoming $41,585 Sales Stakes Futurity, set for June 14, 2025.
The 300-yard final will feature 2-year-olds who passed through the 2024 AQHRA Canada Quarter Horse Cup Yearling Sale.
Topping the qualifiers was Cervezas Fire, posting a sharp 16.083 clocking to secure her spot as the fastest qualifier heading into the final. She clocked an 80 speed index against a 17 mph headwind and the effort paid $4.40 to win on the post-time favorite.
Owned by Jerry Stojan the daughter of Cerveza Coronas sold for $5,500 in last year’s Canada QH Cup Sale. Cervezas Fire was bred in Alberta by Charles G. Stojan out of Getit Hot, by Walk Thru Fire.
The filly is trained by veteran conditioner William H. Leech and was piloted by Ricardo Moreno. The win marked a strong debut for the filly, who displayed early speed and held her advantage with authority.
Right behind her on the trial leaderboard was Insta Bond, piloted by Adrian Gonzalez, who won his trial heat and stopped the timer at 16.182. The victory paid $8.80 on a $2.00 wager. Trainer Craig Smith saddled the son of Ivory League for owner Darby Danard.
Ralph Danard bred the $8,500 Canada QH Cup Sale graduate out of Chick Gone Wild, by Chicks A Blazin. The gelding’s solid finish in his trial sets him up as a top contender for the June 14 final.
