OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–MAY 31, 2025–Hooked N Gone had something to prove. After finishing third in last year’s Debbie Schauff Remington Park Invitational Championship, the five-year-old gelding returned this year to win the $258,000 Grade 1 finals. He triumphed over a talented field of older horses in the 440-yard stakes race.

Piloted by jockey Jesus Ayala, Hooked N Gone cleared the wire 3/4-lengths ahead of the field, holding off the second favorite Shakers No Secret. The 5-year-old gelding clocked in 21.360 seconds on the fast track, and the upset paid $40.20 for the win.

Hooked N Gone earned $147,300 for the victory, increasing his bankroll to $736,823. The son of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon has a record of 6-9-3 from 26 starts, five of those wins in stakes competition.

His top stakes victories include the Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Derby-G1, Z Wayne Griffin Directors Stakes (twice), and Remington Park Juvenile.

Trainer Victor Ibarra saddled the Oklahoma-bred gelding for owner-breeder Regina Laymon. Hooked N Gone is out of Pretty Girl Kate, a daughter of Pretty Boy Perry.

Ridden by Christian Ramos, Shakers No Secret crossed the wire in a photo finish with Rgs Gold Wagon and his rider James Flores. Shakers No Secret won the nod by a nose for second.

Trained by Matt Jungers, Shakers No Secret has ten wins from 30 starts and $738,664 in earnings, including the Championship at Sunland Park-G1 earlier this season and last year’s AQHA Racing Challenge Championship Stake-G1.

Garlyn O. Shelton bred Shakers No Secret in Texas out of Shaker Secret, by No Secrets Here. Co-owners Abel Lopez, Ethan Lopez, and Manny Dutchover purchased the gray gelding by Five Bar Cartel for $14,000 in the 2021 Heritage Place Yearling Sale.

Rgs Gold Wagon has a record of 9-8-4 from 33 starts and $80,036 in earnings. Trainer Steven Jordan conditions the 5-year-old sorrel gelding by Prized Wagon for owner Mauricio Garza. Roy Garza bred him in Oklahoma out of Ja Gols Debutante, by Gol.

The Debbie Schauf Remington Park Invitational Championship is held annually at Remington Park in Oklahoma City. Renamed in 2020 to honor the late Debbie Schauf, former executive director of the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Racing Association, it is one of the premier events for older horses in the nation.
