Fl Rizzo Dominates With A Slight Upset Remington Park Distance Championship

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–MAY 31, 2025–Fl Rizzo delivered a commanding performance to take the $58,000 Remington Park Distance Championship Stakes-G1 by daylight on Saturday.

Cruising to a decisive 3 1/4-length victory over the 870 yard stakes, jockey Gonzalo Gutierrez piloted the brown gelding to victory in 44.295 seconds on a fast track. The son of Kvn Corona clocked a 109 speed index, only 7/1000th of a second off of Snowbound Superstar’s record set in 2009, and defeated the favorite O Donavan Rossa.

Fl Rizzo earned $29,400 for the victory boosting his career earnings to $84,443. The victory improved his record to four wins and four seconds from 12 starts and paid $11.60 for the win on 9-2 odds.

Some of Fl Rizzo’s top performances include a first place finish in the last year’s Walter Merrick Stakes and second in the Will Rogers Distance Challenge Stakes-G3. He also place fourth earlier this month in the Pauls Valley Stakes-G2 at Remington Park.

Matt Whitekiller trains Fl Rizzo for owners-breeders Lindley and Julia Myers of Washington. He is out of the Fly Jess Fly mare Fly Reba Fly.

Runner-up, the distance superstar, O Donovan Rossa was ridden

Last year’s Remington Park Distance Championship winner O Donovan Rossa ran a solid race but could not close the gap and wa no match for Fl Rizzo. The seven-year-old runner-up was ridden by Roman Cruz for owner-breeder Kelly Yother Equine LLC.

Trained by Dee Keener, the distance runner superstar has a record of 13-9-6 from 44 starts and $389,764 in the bank. The eight-time stakes winner is sired by leading sire Apollitical Jess and out of Shanachee by Country Chicks Man.

Third-place finisher Rock Ya Later, piloted by Ali Rivera, finished another two lengths behind O Donovan Rossa. Owned by Rockin J Running Horses and trained by Tammy Johnson he has five lifetime wins and $182,844 in the bank. The 5-year-old gelding by Rock Solid Jess was bred in Texas by Melissa Slayton out of Dosvedanya by Separatist.

The remaining order of finish is Wynnchester, Volcoms Favorite, Big Daddy Dan and Freakin Patriot Dash.
